These are such high quality superb interviews, please keep it up. Not catered to 'advanced' birders, but very enjoyable still because there is at least some degree of taking knowledge of the audience in mind. Love that. Together with the two great hosts, the videos of the birds discussed really take it over the edge.

Curious as the ‘the tab’,how much did the year cost ? ~ I’ll never do it,too old,but its an unbelievable quest(fulfilled),very inspirational
@TheBirdersShow Жыл бұрын
I just read an advance copy of Arjan's book translated into English, and the tab mentioned was around $65,000 I think. And it certainly is an impressive feat. I recommend the book as well, it's called 'The (Big) Year that Flew By.'

Met Arjan Dwarshuis in Thailand at Kaeng Krachan NP during the early stages of his mammoth task to beat the World record. He came across as a very enthusiastic and determined guy ready for his big year challenge. He also copied my binoculars Swarovski 10x32 and I have an image to prove it.

That's so cool that you met him during the Big Year Manup. He's definitely determined! Listening to the stories about his year, it was incredible how much effort went into it!

Hello guys I really love your show. I would recommended you please set subtitles because a lot of people in latinoamerica don't speak english and that would be amazing for them thank you!🐦
@TheBirdersShow3 жыл бұрын
Hey Fabian. Thank you for watching and for your suggestion. We think it’s a great idea. We’re self-funded on a shoestring budget at this stage but are talking to a couple of sponsors who might be able to kick us a few bucks to help pay for subtitles and some other costs of the show. We’re keeping our fingers crossed!

I think some folks might see this, or similar accomplishments, and try to simplify it with things like, "Well if I had lots of $$$, or, if I were young and healthy", etc.... But the reality is, for accomplishments such as these, their are a LONG list of things that all have fall perfectly into place. In other words, it would take just the right person, under just the right circumstances. This guy was truly blessed :) I'm stoked for him :) Great channel BTW ! I just subscribed :)

Thanks for subscribing and welcome! We couldn't agree more: Arjan was absolutely the right person for this incredible achievement! And it's definitely not something just anyone could do with time or money or youth: the dedication, energy, and enthusiasm required - plus the luck - make a Global Big Year a standout achievement even if you don't break the record like he did. I'm not sure I could do what he did, and I certainly love birds and birding

I've started a (sort of) Big Year entirely online, heheheh - whenever I see an image of a really striking bird, I write down all its information along with the most interesting fact I can find about it. I'm up to 15 spectacular species in... 60 days so far. (I'm housebound, so...) Haven't decided yet if I'll add the birds I can see or hear in the neighbourhood - probably not. Keep it "exotic".
