Hey Phil… I am a Tidal user…. DJ Pro AI still allows taking the vocals out and let music play or to remove the music and let vocals play. It’s not as robust as it used to be but there is still some functionality. Owning music is the way to go for sure…. Great stuff! I tune in all the time…. Thx.

Anyone else get the Tidal questionnaire? They are asking specifically about 'DJ' functions for their service. One question is 'Would you like to see any of these features added?'. One being Stems....... OK Tidal, so you basically want to tax us for Stems, just come out and say it. I think it's a slap in the face for any company, who had nothing to do with the creation of this technology, to then impose a levy on their subscribers to use it. I don't think Tidal were forced to remove Stems. I just think they see it as a way of introducing a 'DJ Tool Kit' option on their service for an extra $10-15 per month. I think it's time to find an alternative service.

I had my suspicions as to why it was taking so long for Denon to provide stems on the prime4+ hence this issue and I wouldn’t be surprised if this comes to pass on other platforms unless they are planning a price hike for stems use that wouldn’t surprise me either.

Not sure the two are connected, as stems will always work with music you own (and you should own your music). I think in that case it is more that it is hard to get them to sound good (we're not impressed with the Denon Prime 4+ stems at the moment).

Offline locker is so so so much more useful to me at the minute than being able to use it with stems . I’ll take that anyday for tracks in playlists I’d never play again after one gig. So don’t wanna buy . Seriously chuffed about that !

Can't say this is surprising at all as it is just a service you pay for which can change at any time. Glad I never fell for streaming for professional work. Wait. Does this mean that Tidal isn't supported AT ALL in Rekordbox ? I use TIDAL in Rekordbox sometimes and exclusively as a backup for special whishes that I don't have in my library. Today it is not working any more. It says login and when I click on that it opens my browser and it says: unable to login error - contact Support. (Even though I am already logged in TIDAL online.

Not a big deal. If you play in the club or venue all your songs should be stored, pre analyzed and ready to rock with stems. Streaming platforms is only a backup source imho Unless you are playing in your bedroom or home studio

Well, this news is way too late for me. I just updated to the new DJ Pro 5 and I am restricted from using Tidal stems and also importing music from one music platform to another. That sucks. And I am paying a lot for title membership.

You can get stems for any song from a separate software or (totally for free) from VDJ, at anytime. It's better to get your stems like that because you can listen to them and fix them (believe me- a lot need fixing). You also now have flexibility and can use them in any software, at any time (after you save them). It is also less load on your cpu because it is just playing a track instead of running an algorithm. You can also do more creative things with them that way. Tidal can't stop you.

@@digitaldjtips I agree, it is convenient. Not sure I would trust that live though. Some of those "insta stems" can sound off depending on the track. I used to stream from a couple of services. I stopped when I realized that all those tracks were already in my record pools. I was really only paying for the ability to be able to play them from the internet, on the spot. That wasn't enough to justify the cost for me. I use the Pioneer ecosystem so all I need to carry is a USB, its not that difficult or inconvenient. If I want to play from the internet, on the spot- I can sign up for their dropbox and have my whole library there. The dropbox cost less than the streaming services. I believe that Engine does the dropbox too. Looking at current options- these streaming service should be looking to increase what they give us- not pull back.

I always rename software versions and keep them, so when updates happen I have the ability to roll back. It has predominantly helped with Serato where run an old version to use on SL4, then a new to connect to my new controller and CDJs

If you don’t upgrade to the new software then Serato can never make you since the app is standalone. If they dropped a Serato client on your laptop and it had to connect to a Serato server to work then yeah (and in the future they can implement this, hopefully they don’t read this comment lol) but as is now just don’t upgrade and you’re good forever. Or until the next groundbreaking feature like stem comes along that you need but by then this won’t be an issue I’m sure lol

I spent the whole summer waiting for my FLX10 to arrive, got it a couple if months ago, absolutely loved messing around and playing gigs with it. And now this. Sure, I have a massive music collection already. However, a big part of being able to justify the price tag on this (and the new laptop for running stems smoothly) was the fact that I could skimp out on new tracks for a bit.. Guess the next set or two is gonna be focused on throwbacks, then.

But this feature “tidal with stems” is something they can remove without “pushing” an update. On their end with their servers they can cut off that feature at anytime, regardless of which version you are on.

Talk to a bar or club owner and ask what they have to pay just to have a jukebox on the wall. Let alone have a band that plays cover tunes. you can quickly be up to $8500 in royalty fees yearly just to offer that entertainment in your venue. It's all about the money. Tell me how many artists actually see the money from these royalty enforcement companies. This is why I buy all the music I play. Streaming is convenient but i have never trusted it will be a one size fits all solution.

Wow, what a sad day for us DJs, all over the world who use streaming services! SMH, yes, I definitely feel this is motivated by money, and this does nothing to harm anyone else in the industry except for the street D.J.… Yes, the street D.J., not Your average Radio, I have all of the bells and whistles that I buy, and I know how to program like my name is Steve Jobs, or the best hacker in the world… Hello hell, SMH type of D.J. who is on the radio, if I must add again! The stems functionality is definitely a game changer and really leveled the playing field on so many levels that it is ridiculous as well as challenges, the more professional, end or high end of D.J. skills that one only learns by being out here in the streets doing it live, could only understand. yes I understand if you own the Music, you can still do the same, but what if I’m in a tight situation, and my local library disrupts for a moment, and I can only turn my streaming platform to continue on with my live show, if stemming, that particular song is a part of that routine then I’m lost without it because I cannot perform it. The fact that me as a D.J. or anyone else for that matter even chooses to play your song, whether it be vocally or instrumentally, going to make you shine, as well as make people want to buy your music, regardless of the presentation as long as the presentation fits the moment in question! So, like I said, the only people that get harmed is us and if I had my way, I would bring us all together so that we could do a strike like these other important entities! We are very important as well and the industry needs to know that! Two fingers to the street D.J. and turntable list all around the world. Who read this!

You actively started the discussion simply pointing at the major labels, then went on to talk about Beatsource and highlighted their "arrangement". These are licencing and publishing deals, pure and simple. The current licencing deals that Tidal have with Universal, Warner, BMG, 4AD, Beggars etc, were not drawn up with live stem separation in mind, and so these deals will now have to be amended. This was always going to happen at some time. Tidal's parent company just bought out Stem, a royalty distribution company with aims to democratise and speed up the way royalties are paid to copyright holders. I'm pretty certain we won't have heard the last of this. I would expect a higher paid tier aimed to DJs to return in the future.

I suspect the real reason for this is the threat to the music industry by music created by AI using stems/mashups. Access to huge online libraries is required & makes easy for AI/software. Hence the block. I am using streaming services for all my DJ work, big fan of stems 2.0, so very annoyed by this. What are your thoughts.? I believe @laidbackluke left Denon for dropping support for stems ?? .. what do you think, same reason???

The cat is out of the bag, Ultimate Vocal Remover and RipX will give you great stems on the desktop, so removing from DJ software seems pointless.

Since you don't know my country's laws, I'll summarize: You're allowed to have up to 1500 songs, local files or physical medium, out of which you need purchase proof for 85%. SoundCloud FAQs: - Can I DJ with SoundCloud DJ at the club? No, please reference our full guidelines here. TIDAL terms: - The TIDAL Service shall be for private use only and use of the TIDAL Service in commercial or public settings is not permitted. - You have no right to any use that requires a public performance license. Other services might allow it, but it's still not legal here unless you have the music file (and it's within the 15% rule). You can't stream.

@@ruimarto You are correct about tidal and SoundCloud. However, their are multiple other streaming services for DJn and some of them are 110% legal to use in public performance. Ie beatsource/port, content unlimited, and Deezer.

@@clutch269 Yes, I know, but you're missing the point: even if the service allows it, the law here doesn't. Different countries have different laws. They should help the community, pressuring the governments to change the law in accordance or issue specific licenses for their service. But so far nothing, only a small buzz about SoundCloud doing it. I've used Beatsource and know others that use Beatport, but we still buy each song. :/ And even with bought music, the bars/clubs need three music licenses, which add up to thousands a year. They say a new license for streaming might come up next year, but I'm guessing it will be a few thousands more for the club/bar.

Jesus .. That's the biggest reason I use Tidal. For the amazing STEMS. This is going to cost them at least half of the customers in the DJ business. Well, maybe not half, but 40% for sure. I'll be looking at a different one then, STEMS is something I include in ALL my live performances. My whole (DJ) brand is built around it. BYE TIDAL, HELLO BEATSOURCE.

@@digitaldjtips Hey Phil (I assume), it's okay. The music business finally got it so far that more and more people were paying legally for music. Now with STEMS in DJ software (the Pioneer FLX10 and the RANE FOUR are specifically designed for use with STEMS), many DJ's, including me, were using streaming services like TIDAL because they have the best STEMS quality. Now that STEMS is 'fired' from the service, there is no point in using TIDAL, because other services are cheaper. That said, I will continue using TIDAL and just not update Serato as long as I can. Thing that bothers me the most, is that I just bought a brand new Macbook M2 last week because it handles STEMS better than my old 2015 Macbook Pro. A bit annoying, as I spent 1200 bucks just for that STEMS feature (call me nuts, but I ONLY use the Macbook with Serato DJ Pro). I might 'hack' myself into the updated Serato to keep using STEMS, that particular code isn't hard, but it's time consuming. Time I don't really have.

Beatsource is pants, the genres are always mixed up, the folders have the wrong genres in them or there's no songs in them ! Beatport is WAY Better imo

I wonder what moron decided to call it 'peaktime/driving' though, it's a stupid name. Also, they put (Dutch/German Hardcore/Gabber/Rave in the damn Hardstyle chart. Complete different genres.

Since AI can take a voice sample and recreate the voice to sing like anyone shouldnt it be able also to recreate stems and make them sound like he original. Its the new hip hop. How successful were we at stopping sampling of other songs to create hip hop, MF Doom and Mad Villani to the rescue.
