These chatters all suffer from Woody Allen Syndrome. Orson Welles: “I hate Woody Allen physically; I dislike that kind of man,” he said. Adding: “Oh yes, I can hardly bear to talk to him. He has the Chaplin disease. That particular combination of arrogance and timidity sets my teeth on edge.” Jaglom countered Welles’ assertions, suggesting that Allen was a shy man and, therefore, surely couldn’t be labelled as arrogant. “He is arrogant,” Welles persisted in retort. “Like all people with timid personalities, his arrogance is unlimited. Anybody who speaks quietly and shrivels up in company is unbelievably arrogant. He acts shy, but he’s not. He’s scared. He hates himself, and he loves himself, a very tense situation. It’s people like me who have to carry on and pretend to be modest.”

@Gobbldeegoo12 ай бұрын
All of that is easy when things are going well in your life. I agree with it, but it’s just so much easier said than done in the real world when it’s real issues. When the issues that lead to self-hate are superficial like losing some weight or tripping in front of people or spilling a drink and narcissism/self-obsession… that’s just an entirely different world from people with survivors guilt, or PTSD from watching a loved one pass, or PTSD from being tortured as a child, and then hating yourself. So much of Vaush’s advice leans towards people dealing with the former and not the latter on this specific issue because he himself had a stable childhood etc. Just my 2 cents as someone that worked with traumatized children caught up in the “Justice system” for years. Some of it is culture too, we haven’t exactly fostered a society that prioritizes community and acceptance. We have an extremely competitive and atomized culture, with really high economic expectations of everyone (have your own house, own a nice car, status and clout, and a socially respected career)… that leads to a lot of these problems.
@zacharycompton56242 ай бұрын
