I think the depressing underlying message of this video is that in the modern world we experience entertainment through screens within screens. Nothing is ever real and fame/clout is just an illusion that only exists within these screens. At the end of the video you can see them standing looking at their own music video like regular viewers, as if their own public image became independent of them to start a life on its own. I don't know if I can express my ideas clearly in english but this video feels very dystopian and depressing to me. Even the song lyrics are rather depressing, especially the chorus.
