honestly, as someone who has struggled with addiction (just like Benjamin Burnley), i have always pictured this song as the words of the devil in my head. For anyone, religious or not, who has gone through addiction, you know that there is this other side of you that is "the monster in your head" and doesn't care if you try and take him down, only bent on destroying who you are. i have always pictured this as the devil always trying to "drag me down again."
