-+Thorium 229m happily married and quite quenched, haha. seen this comment before, so i'll try n set it straight. the reason we support women that skateboard is because i feel they're doing it for all the right reasons. before Leticia, there was little hope of a female skater signing a huge contract and cashing out due to their ability. There was a time in skateboarding not that long ago that this was the case for all participants men and women. society at large had no interest in skateboarding so the people that loved it were running the companies and pushing it forward out of passion alone. I feel that the female participants in 2016, came up in an era similar to the one described. no market for female pro's so they took it upon themselves to make board companies, throw events and find alternate ways to shine a light on what they were accomplishing. In the 10 years prior i doubt there were soccer mom style parents encouraging their daughters to wreck their knees and ankles in hope of getting on a board company to ultimately be let go due to financial concerns (Elissa, Marisa) I couldn't tell you all the motives that push a skater like Breana to this point, but i assume they're similar to our own "...never for money, always for love, cover up and say good night"

It's kinda funny, there weren't many "skater" kids in the Okanagan atleast from my point of view. I went to high school with her, and I'd always see her and two other kids skateboarding around. The environment around her was toxic, the local skate park in Westbank, BC, hadn't been maintained in decades. It was half concrete and half asphalt and everything was in terrible shape. Downtown kelowna had a few good spots, but then again the city would just install anti skateboarding things on any surface that you could grind on not long after you'd find it. The only real skate park in kelowna was a 30 minute bus ride and a 20 minute walk away from school. Her environment was "toxic" in the sense of everything being against her. But pressure creates diamonds, and in 2022 she's both famous and sponsored.
