I had to listen to this twice so I hope I’m understanding what you’re saying. This will be a league for women’s basketball player off season so they don’t have to go over seas, but your only taking the TOP 30 players. So how does that help ALL the players in the W. I don’t see how this promotes women’s basketball or all the women that are in the W now. Thats how the interview came off.
@wheevocado
@wheevocado 2 ай бұрын
Basically you grow the popularity of the top 30 players and give them the opportunity to make money and stay in shape during the off season without leaving the country. As they become more popular there's more chances that ppl will tune in during the WNBA season bringing more money into the league, thus bringing more money into all the player's pockets. Also if this league is successful you can even expand it and include more players.
@lindysmallwood2039
@lindysmallwood2039 2 ай бұрын
Ok I get what you’re saying, but your marketing strategy might be a little off. The fans that are coming in now are because of the incredible players that were just drafted. There are only a few that will be in the top 30 players at the end of the season. Not sure you’re going to get the following you want. I could be wrong. All the other players not in that top 30 will have to go overseas if they want to stay in shape and get better. I’m way older than the average aged fan so I know their stats etc on some of the players but still having to catchup on others. There are top players I don’t care to watch personally and I think these newer fans will not follow who you are trying to make more popular even if they have great skills. I do wish you the best!!!!
@wheevocado
@wheevocado 2 ай бұрын
@@lindysmallwood2039 well, it's a business after all. They would take the players that can bring an audience. I do believe in the end everyone will benefit one way or another if this league is successful. I think the point is the sport will benefit more if this league exists than if it doesn't.

I hope so. Women’s basketball players are so under payed and the media hasn’t done the W any favors. With the growth this year and how all the players are trying to continue that growth, more games with be on regular ESPN, NBC etc. People having to buy subscriptions to watch the games decreases visibility. There were a lot of people today that wanted to watch all the different games and couldn’t. I love the W pass because I’m into the stats etc and I watch 2 games at once sometimes, so I would still buy the pass. Look forward to see what the players can do to make the W better

The Liberty had a record attendance for the Caitlin Clark game of 17,735. The game they said was a sellout yesterday had attendance of 9,182. They close off half the arena then declare it a sellout. The NY attendance is similar to the 2023 season except for the Clark game. All around the league attendance is similar to last year except when Clark comes to town then it doubles to the max. In 2023, the Indiana Fever were next to last at a 4,000 average attendance. This year they are by far number 1 at over 16,000 a game. Amazing the lengths the players and media will go to avoid giving Caitlin Clark the credit she obviously deserves for all the new attention the WNBA is getting. Caitlin should start her own league. No one else would stand a chance.

Maybe this Unrivaled off-season experiment will open the eyes of WNBA players to understand that it's a business and that making a profit for the investors is the primary goal. Only time will tell and maybe the players and the Unrivaled investor group will come to the realization and understanding as to why the WNBA has to be subsidized by the NBA! I got to give her credit....it's a bold move for 2025.

Whatever brought them to the game? Ummm, Caitlin Clark brought them to the game. Give the woman her due. Yes, I know she wasn't playing the Liberty, but Caitlin created the interest for the entire league. As for this new league, Unrivaled, I think it's a mistake to throw more women's basketball into the mix at this time. Let time play out and see what happens with this new, current explosion that the WNBA is experiencing. If things can continue, salaries will go up and women players will not need to go overseas. Breanna may over-saturate the airwaves with too much basketball, and then all of it may fade away. She is jumping into this far too quickly.

And women are just too frustrating to watch. air balls, missed layups, butter fingers, slow.
