Breath of Fire III -- Final Battle with Myria and Ending

In this video I begin the game from the final save spot in the Myria Station, after all of the boss revisit battles. From here you go down through a passageway to locate the final rooms before Myria where your party is bombarded with the Goddesses propaganda. Once you finally meet up with her you have a good amount of dialog and then begin the final battle.
In the final battle I prefer to use Rei and Momo because of their attack increasing abilities and agility, which places them near the beginning of the battle attack order. I also opted to use the Myrmadon warrior form of the dragon (trace + force genes) rather than the controlled inifinity form. The reason is that this form has a slightly higher attack power and also spends way less AP per turn than infinity would. The attack of choice is Aura which is good for 1,300 to 1,800 per hit, depending on the current attack up buffs.
For some reason the Goddess laid off of the Venom attacks during this particular run which surprised me. Rei died toward the end of the battle before I was able to revive him with the next turn because Myria was defeated first. However since this is the end of the game I didn't really care. Besides you don't have to deal with the temporary Max HP reduction or missing out on the experience points like the other bosses.

Bof 4 is the sequel to Bof 3 that's why the world in Bof4 is engufled in sand. Because that incarnation of Tyr named Myria in bof 3 was keeping the world in a cage to protect it from the sand. Many people must have perished in the desert because of this, but hey, she was trapping us, in a prison, and oppressing us with her creations like Balio and Sunder....but they were still cool oppressors...

This game deserves a remake. Strong themes, and even while the characters are not as fleshed out as I would have like (PS1 era didn't leave much room for this though), there certainly is potential to fine tune this game from an all-time-classic into a modern masterpiece.

One of the greatest games ever made. Us who were lucky enough to be able to sit down and play this game from start to finish when it was released were given a treasure. When that seed sprouds at the end it hits me in the heart every time because Breath of Fire III is ultimately a story about conquering your own fears and saving the world by saving yourself and your family.

Notice how she never actually explains WHY its the Brood's fault that the world is dying. Just that it *is* their fault. She tries to blame it on the war, a war she helped fuel with the Guardians, a war designed to specifically eradicate the dragons. She may be referring to the dragons being too powerful as a whole, almost like they're living nuclear weapons, but she passes all of the problems onto the Brood instead of trying to find actual solutions or blaming it on people's nature to war. Ultimately, its really all about control for Myria/Tyr, always has been. She tried using the Dark Dragons as her pawns to wipe out any undesirables before and that failed, so she made her own race and even they turned on her.

We shouldn't take Myria words to heart, she knows that the Brood could take her on and defeat her. Let's not forget, this is Myria's third attempt to mess up the world. BoF1 she started a war while she watched. Bof2 Her spawn, Deathevan, caused trouble around the world, to the point Ryu 2 mother had to take action and seal herself and await the day that Ryu was strong enough to fight Deathevan and destroy him. While Myria wasn't there, she left her spawn behind, so she's indirev responsible. Before Bof3 she successfully manages to get the Brood near extinct and stagnating humanity's progress. Let's not forget what happened to Teepo...

I only ever played BOF4, so never saw any of this. But, I've got some thoughts: I LOVE the character design of the main boss and her motivations, too. She's so creepy and awesome in her battle form. I understand where she's coming from in a way. It makes me think of the fight between God and Lucifer. We say that Lucifer is bad, but Lucifer is the original rebel. Instead of doing what he's told, he dares to think he can know better than God... Just like these guys. It's a really interesting and creepy concept. Most modern humans would never go against a god... But most humans also don't know anything about the world, let alone what is beyond it...

I go by my own interpretation... Myria/Tyr, is a liar and a demon. Always was. But realized the Brood/Light, would keep her from obtaining dominion over the world. She was thwarted three times before, that's why she devised this plan. To keep anyone or anything more powerful than her from her arrogant control. Death to Myria, Death to Deathevan, and all the incarnations. Lol... yes I take these games way too seriously. Also though... why are the Holy Order of Dragons deemed the Brood? Obviously as something meant to be despised... as opposed to Light, so that we might not see. Even the Dragons begin to believe that they themselves are evil, it's a lie told over and over. Myria is the one who put the Dragons at odds, with "wishes" with lies. Hence Teepo, and Ray, and to some extent... Zog. And when Momo suggests that one day, "We might be able to build our own machines." Myria shakes her head. She can't have that. These stories are about choice and force. And you're always able to choose a good, or a bad ending. That's why I love 'em. That freaked me out a little bit... she calls Ryu "Matt" Lol, well, it's a common name. That aside, consider the desert; it's green and lush on the other side of the world, why? Not because Myria wills it as she says, but because Yggdrasil is on the other side keeping watch. She has rotted the world around her, just as her previous forms, her seeds of evil. And the Dragons who followed after her to the other side of the ocean have forgotten their purpose, or rather, they have lost the faith, they doubt themselves. Which is why Ryu appears to set things straight. Damn I love this game. The goddess is a communist. Better dead than red. I mean, look at her, she's a devil, a serpent with angel wings, and look at her moves! Holocaust? Her belly bursts with wires of control... Myria is the cause of the desert. Change my mind. (The ending, Yggdrasil rises from the desert...)
