My husband and I really enjoyed watching this together. Excellent work! At 1:35 I thought I saw a pineapple.🍍I certainly had a double take.

I’m so glad to hear this! Really appreciate the kind words, it’s a spectacular part of our oceans! Honestly I’ve never noticed the pineapple looking coral.. until now 😅

@@TomPark Too funny. I’d be curious to know the actual name of the coral. But I’ll think of it as the pineapple formation from now on.
@TomPark2 жыл бұрын
So the head of the coral (the pineapples grass) haha is just a feather star - an animal. The coral is a fairly common hard coral species. They’re just very uniquely placed on each other :p
@botanicaltreasures24082 жыл бұрын
@@TomPark The combination is wonderful. If you had a still photo of it I’d make it into a greeting card. Pineapples are a sign of hospitality or welcome. The card would be a way to introduce people to two ordinary, yet special organisms frequently met with on a coral reef.

Very cool dude. Spending time underwater is something many people never get to experience. Your video does it justice.

@TomPark2 жыл бұрын
Hey Marcos, thank you mate really appreciate this! There should be a lot more info in the description, but the scuba diving shots were from: The Ribbon Reefs, Osprey Reef, Bougainville Reef and Milln Reef. The snorkelling shots were from Milln Reef, Fitzroy Island and Frankland Island. Some of my favourite locations out of Cairns!

The Coral's look brownish are they ok?
@TomPark2 жыл бұрын
In parts yes. Coral dying is a normal part of it's life cycle. Some of the coral, e.g. the vibrant areas full of life, and brown coral next to it, is very normal. Others, e.g. with the large fish (The Potato Cods), where there is a lot of brown coral, this is not okay. This area even 10 years ago was stunning and vibrant. However having said that, the reef there just 20m away from those shots is a significant amount better and is recovering. For the Nemo shots, these are so close to shore that this is normal that they are brown as reef can't survive under waves near shorelines. Long story short, the reefs showcased in these visuals are for the most part okay. Exceptions like the Potato Cod shots are there, but it's mostly okay in this footage. But generally speaking, many parts of the reef are seriously struggling and is in massive decline. As i'm sure you're aware, the reef is in a critical state, despite there still being patches of beauty like the locations showcased here.

nice montage . although 4:16 the divers sitting on the reef is not good practice, specially on a video such as this promoting the beauty of marine life. if the divers coming along on the dive are not experienced divers, shouldn't there be divermaster's assigned to assist such divers? .
@TomPark2 жыл бұрын
Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed. Now usually, I can’t agree more with you. This particular spot is a rock amphitheatre that has been used as an underwater platform like this for the last 50 or so years, from long before we knew much about reef conservation. So much so that this amphitheatre that has been created has been given permission by the GBR Marine Parks to continue to be used in this was as regrowth is extremely unlikely here. All around this particular area, the site at North Horn is some of the best on the reef. The operators work tirelessly to protect it, and also monitor it. If this was actual reef that hadn’t been designed as a rock amphitheatre dw - I’d be loosing my mind!
@AJven2572 жыл бұрын
@@TomPark good to know, I just don't wish the footage to mislead new divers to think that setting down on top of a reef is alright.
@TomPark2 жыл бұрын
You’ve got a good point. That’s definitely not the intention, and dive boats and centres are quick to penalise divers who touch anything. Totally understand your concern though
