Excellent! I live in the Churchill area of Eugene and also have Pawpaws. I've had them for 29 years and they produce well. I've got about 30 1 gallon Pawpaw trees available. They are 2 year old Pennsylvania Golden and grown from seeds. I've been selling these for several years and people say they do well. I've also planted a few around my property and they do very well. This year I also started about 20 different varieties of figs from cuttings and they are doing great. And this is my first year growing figs. I also have several varieties of citrus in pots.

That is great news about pawpaws in our area. I have a small patch of five trees in ground. I just grafted Maria’s joy to my PA Golden a couple of days ago to hopefully help with pollination. I also grafted some early varieties to four seedlings I have in 7G on 5/18/24.

We put in 2 varieties of paw paw a couple of years ago in Corvallis, but still haven't seen any fruit. They are about 6ft tall now so I'm hoping it happens soon. Only problem is, we may be moving later this year and I'll have to start over again. I'm considering trying to use some growth hormone and take a few cuttings from each tree. Thought about air layering, but the beaches are so thin. Still haven't had the chance to even try paw paw yet😅

@@tracy419 - They are very slow to grow to size. I have a little patch of five trees in ground. I just recently grafted over four seedlings. They taste fantastic - a good friend sent a few that were perfectly ripened and I was hooked. I grow them out in 7G before I plant in ground.

@@oregonfigs3314thanks for your response. I'm curious because this is mostly new to me, but is 7g 7 gallons? How tall is that generally? Also, just found out that the flowers falling off my trees are actually fruiting! This will be the first year, now the question is will we be in this house when they ripen?😂
@oregonfigs33147 ай бұрын
Around 1’ - 7G nursery pots are actually 5 gallons - they make it confusing!

Me too,, his is one of the prettiest on KZbin.. we can tell he puts the work in.. Spectacular views, some days we can see the lake, and some days we can't?? The water level must get really low sometimes.. but, it's still a beautiful view..

Very impressive, Chris. Here in Zillah, WA., our winters should stay above 0 degrees F. but this past winter, we were down to -7 degrees F. and my inground trees died back to near the ground. It's more work, but I do better growing in tubs, and try to up pot to eventual 15 gallon tubs. About a week ago, we were still getting 32 degree temperatures or below at night. I used overhead sprinkling for frost protection and it worked well. It's crazy that we've already had a few days in the low 90's, but still getting frosty nights in May.

I have been to Zillah and it is a beautiful location. I would be growing the same way you are growing if I lived there. I do grow several in 15G as the late figs will not ripen a significant amount of their crop in ground where I’m at. In ground is for early main crop and Breba in the Willamette Valley. Some people that don’t live in our area are giving advice and think the PNW is the same wherever you live in the PNW. Those of us that actually live here have to bite our collective tongues! If I hear one more take comparing us to Great Britain, I might implode. Thanks for your input Steve have a great year and stay figgy.

@@oregonfigs3314😂😂😂😂😂😂 people actually compared your climate to the UK?: That's hilarious. I follow you because you know a lot about early varieties. People think because I live in Georgia, I can grow anything, I have to bite my tongue too. NO WE CAN'T!

How do you keep track of which fig plant variety is which and are any of your figs in pots? Also please tell me how do you water everything? I love your orchard :) and I'm enjoying learning about the success stories and the failures you mentioned here. This video is calming and informative which is refreshing for me. I'm in zone 7B, MD so I too struggle because of the winter and lack of experience. I just started 2 years ago from starters/cuttings and I'm so impatient because I have not tasted a single fig. I have Olympian, Bordeaux de Violet, and I'm getting 4 more cold hardy varieties ( latterula, Beers Black, white Ischia,Yellow long neck) soon.

I got breba from my WM#1 a couple years in a row but nothing this year unfortunately. I think it did have one that it dropped. I have a breba on my little vincenzo though. Need to do a fig update soon. Was going to do it this week but got distracted by my honeybees swarming so maybe next week!

Im new to fig growing and I have started a collection of 14 fig varieties going to try and grow in containers in just just side of of Vancouver BC, I have a celeste and I sure hope it does not have the same problems you had. the verities I have are 1. Negronne 2. Latterula 3. Beers Black 4. Chicago Hardy 5. Little Ruby 6. Celeste 7. LSU Purple 8. Peter's Honey 9. Spanish Black 10. Olympion 11. Dessert King 12. Green Michuriska 13. Col De Dame Blanc 14. Moscatel Preto 15. Yellow Long Neck Do you have experience with any of these verities and do you think any of them would work in zone 7b with the last frost date being late march and first frost date being November first I want to have at least some of these for main crop because I've heard the only good figs for brabas are dessert king and im noticing my store brought Latterula fig has a ton of brabas on it. Most of thr trees I have I rooted this winter with only 5 trees I bought at the garden store.

You have some great choices there. I always say the best advice growing figs is from people in your general area. The Southern Willamette Valley is different from your area. You should join the Facebook group called PNW Figs and ask the same question there. We have members from BC and they would love to help out. They know more about what works in your area in BC than I do. I think you will enjoy growing figs!

It's still so pretty out there. I've followed so long it's exciting just to see the growth.. I have a question about breba.. we both follow The Millennial Gardner. Well he's in my zone, and was too busy to prune, so I was so excited to see his brebas, it's like one second they were there,, tons of them, and he posted a short where overnight, they dropped them all ?? I go to swaps in my local area, and I don't know anyone that has brebas?? Is it a climate thing??.
@oregonfigs33148 ай бұрын
When you are growing for Brebas in pots it is very difficult to get consistent results. Young in ground trees can be hit or miss as well. The PNW is a place where Brebas can be phenomenal if you are in certain sections. The PNW is huge and there are many different growing situations depending on where you are located. My best results come from older trees in ground.

would you please post a list of your fig trees in the order you show them? I can't quite catch the name of lots of them from your talking, and the auto-transcript doesn't help either. This tour was great, thank you! Hope your planning on something similar every month or so!
