Appreciate all the walkthroughs. Would be nice to throw up a trail map at the beginning with route highlighted. Possibly an on-screen overlay with GPS track/elevation (see some of the mountain biking videos for examples) would help give a better sense of steepness.

I think you can actually start off higher and end up lower on the mountain if you know which path to take. the very lowest skiable point at breck is the gondola ski back trail which takes you to BreckConnect. You can also hike about ~150ft up from the top of imperial to the very top of peak 8. It's actually possible to ski Breck's entire vertical if you can get through the cliff drop into the imperial bowl and the flat runouts around the 4-O'Clock lift area. I think it might add it to my bucket list though!
@BreckSnowPro2 жыл бұрын
You are correct on both counts! But most people do not like to hike. And the hike would not add much to the mileage. And the difference between the elevation of The Village where I ended this run and the closest you can ski to by the gondola is only about 50 vertical feet.

Bill Endy I was in Utah January 2018 and only skied at Brighton, Solitude, and Park City. The snow was crappy that winter and not only that, but I heard Alta and Snowbird are more suited for advanced skiiers that like powder and steep runs. Is this true? I’ve skied Alaska’s Alyeska for over eight years and still enjoy there though
@billendy74255 жыл бұрын
Last year was a drought year and the snow did not become excellent until early Feb. This year we have been pounded with ALTA receiving over 400" as of today, with more on the way. The mountain provides a variety of terrain. Powder hounds love it, it has one of the best beginner trail systems in the country and there are miles of terrain for groomers (I am much more of a groomer than a powder hound). We have four exceptional resorts in Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons, three in Park City and three up in the area around Ogden UT. The great thing about skiing Utah is that you arrive at the airport in SLC and you are on the slopes in 45 minutes. So, if you get a chance give Alta a look, but I also should say that the mountains you skied here are all excellent in a normal snow year.

John Hansler in my experience, Breckinridge is easier than most other ski resorts in Colorado, at least the ones I ski at. I tend to ski blacks and double blacks, and Breckenridge tends to be super easy. I haven’t skied at Park City or Alta yet, but Breck’s a relatively easy ski resort. I would barely classify their blacks as blacks. Not sure if that helps
@jondstewart5 жыл бұрын
The blue runs I skied at Park City were actually pretty steep, but this was during a pretty sorry season early in 2018 with no powder. And that famous green run called Home Run was an absolute delight if you want to take a more casual approach. As for Alta, I heard most of their runs are actually quite steep, including the blues! I went to Brighton and Solitude as well and those were very standard ski slopes.

I've never heard of a trail called _"Comet"._ Is this trail near _Adios_ and _Psychopath,_ or is it not near them? All I can think of is _Contest Bowl,_ or maybe _Southern Cross._ By the way, I used to ski hear every December, way back in the early to late 1990's, and at the beginning of my skiing, _QuickSilver SuperChair, Falcon SuperChair, Mercury SuperChair,_ and _Colorado SuperChair_ were the only four high-speed detachable chairlifts at the time when I started skiing here! Also, _Peak 7_ and _Peak 6_ didn't even exist yet! _Peak 7_ was nearly completed in the late 1990's, but mostly in its infancy, until years later when I couldn't go there anymore. _Claimjumper_ was the furthest trail away on _Peak 8_ at that time! So ever since, it has really expanded! Wow! I have so much nostalgia and just awesome memories of _Breckenridge Resort!_ There are so many new chairlifts and trails, including bowls and chutes-many of which you had to hike to, unlike now! Sorry for the long reply, but I can't help it-in wanting to go back, but I probably wouldn't be able to now . . . And, it's so much more expensive now! I hope you have a lot of fun, and be safe! 👍

@T Hyslop - I forget, but think I shot this on one of the last days of the season. But I almost never free-ski on days that I'm expecting there to be much in the way of lift-lines. The best way to estimate the steepness of one trail relative to another in these videos is to pay extra attention the the horizon.

Is this near the peak nine lift
@BreckSnowPro4 жыл бұрын
There is no "peak 9 lift". This video starts at the top of the Imperial chairlift on peak 8 and ends at the bottom of the Quicksilver chairlift at the base of peak 9. Several other chairlifts also service peak 9.

Top to bottom no stopping..... must be a Utah thing. It’s ok Colorado, take your little breaks to catch your breath
@coflyer29494 жыл бұрын
Your oxygen intake is significantly more at 10,000 ft (snowbird the tallest mountain in utah that is skiable) than it is at 12,500. Your body cannot stay at 12,500 for too long without needing oxygen as hypoxia sets in. It's good to stop and take breaks to recuperate some oxygen for your muscles to use at that elevation. When I was skiing in Utah I saw way more people stopped in the middle of the run then I've seen in CO. But hey, to each their own. Stopping on the sides is generally a good idea to reevaluate terrain and your body's capacity to continue.

Pretty well shot. Unfortunately the guy at @15:15 gave up the sport that afternoon after nobody bothered to ask him whether he thought he could make it to the bottom on his own with two compound fractures.
