Great achievement getting so many fry, even if you had to remove the pipes. In the lake, calvus spawn in very narrow, tight crevices amongst piles of rocks and even in some of the larger snail shells. Once the fry leave the cave they literally just swim a few inches "around the corner " into the nearest crevices, thereby avoiding predation by any large fish, but mainly the parents who are the immediate threat. To prevent the male from cannibalising the fry, perhaps you might consider adding some additional cover to act as refugia into which the youngsters could retreat? Some small snail shells would do the job. Not 100% guarantee but such a measure would reduce your losses.

My female was deep in a pvc tube I got nervous I thought she was stuck. Should I have left her it looked like she couldn't turn around.

Interesting video, but your on screen writing and pictures during the first minute transitioned way too fast. I am a very fast reader, and I still had to rewind multiple times to read your text. Also you showed your tank set up for about 2 seconds. As someone who has some new calvus on the way, I really wanted to take in everything in your video.
