Күн бұрын

A very rewarding gecko- Heteronotia binoei , the prickly gecko.
This is a smaller Madagascar gecko that is absolutely loved in the hobby.
We go through their care, breeding, egg collection, and even show off some babies.
ALSO! I'll talk about a very important tip to keep these geckos and to breed them more successfully.

Parthenogenesis is an amazing feature, it is interesting that many reptiles species have been documented capable of this. Even Komodo Dragons they have documented it in. I always find it interesting that species that only reproduce that way tend to do better when multiple are together.

I bought 3 about 8 months ago. They've been doing great in a planted set-up I've made. I just went to turn off their light and check on them and I saw a baby! I didn't even know they had laid eggs. I just changed replanted and moved stuff around about a month ago but must have missed it. Do you have any advice for the first few months of raising the baby? I don't have the money nor space to get a second set-up. I have plenty of rock and wood places to hide. I've checked online before I got them and can find little to no care sheets about these guys. Will pinhead crickets be small enough?

I love the accent. It's interesting to think about reptiles working together and hunting in groups. I feel like they're more intelligent than most people realize. The process of parthenogenesis has always fascinated me. It seems like most parthenogenetic species do better in groups. My surinam roaches reproduce the same way. It seems the larger their colony gets better they do.

Hi WCDEICH4. Thanks for the great questions. I should have included this in the video, but thanks for asking. Insects- small crickets, mealworms and dubia. Bioactive... as long as it is arid and you have a damp area for the clean up crew. Yes, they highly prefer this dry substrate.

Could you use a kitty litter scooper to find the eggs? So you can't really hold them, because they move fast. I guess I just like the natural feel for the eggs. And, when I find them (you probably didn't get this from the video), I don't 'roll' them.
