Racehorses have to be conceived in this manner. AI is illegal in all countries for thoroughbred racehorses.

Some horses are actually shy maybe even gay with mares. There's a few books out there that mention it or just google War Emblem. Others just get tired as the season goes on. Any stud, no matter how much they love mares, can get worn out from breeding season. You're talking about for a high demand stallion sometimes up to three to four times a day for maybe six days a week for 4-6 months. Alydar had that kind of stud career, and he took a turn for the worst in personality and sex life after a while because he got tired of covering so many mares for so long. At the end of breeding season in Wild Ride: The Rise and Fall of Calumet Farm, they SAY that stallions need to be helped with breeding because they're just so tired at the end of it. The boots protect the mare and stallion, and the leather guard is used because some stallions take a huge chunk out of their mares when breeding. Some stallions rip a hole in the mares neck if they could have the chance. They have these precautions there for a very good reason.

The stallions don't get tired of breeding Mares. They get tired of no social interaction. I'm sure if you threw a "spent" stallion out in a field with some in heat Mares he'd breed happily. Stallions are horses just like a mare or a gelding and thrive off socialization with other horses, even more so during breeding. If you watch them in the wild or out pasture with Mares they nuzzle and flirt with the mare face on repeatedly until she accepts him and turns towards him with her rear or stands for him. It's a "game" of sorts just like anything else they do in life.

@@tanakk9Excellent comment. Have you heard of the German thoroughbred stud that turns a barren mare out with a stallion? The stallion becomes more even-tempered and can be handled by all staff; there's no need for a stallion handler when the horse has social interaction.

They do "decide". The mare isn't stapled to the ground...those are boots to protect the stallion if she kicks out, which she will if she doesn't want to be bred. It's not "love". Don't anthropomorphize horses. The breed because it's instinct to, not love.

Lit's not talk about love, no , but let's talk about money, because , that's what it comes down to in this video. "we taught them to breed quickly" so it's easier to control them and make them breed more than they would naturally, then "we" can get more money from the fools that paid hefty sums for a stallion seeds. Who care if the "codes" a mare and a stallion use to tell each other they ate ready to mate are broken, who care if a mare isn't totally ready to be bred, who care if that kind of breeding is what cause the potential problems the handler is talking about. apparently no one as long as they get money from the studs breedings.

In Ireland, we stallion men don't wear helmets as we have the Thoroughbred sires "well trained" but hey we Irish know a thing of three about Capaill (horses ;-) it's in our Blood for Thousands of years. We were racing on the Curragh plain of Kildare, 2,000 years ago and before that. The Celt's and the races of people 1,000 B.C. plus.

There is no reason for holding the reins tightly against the poor fellow's mouth with a bit tearing at the stallion's lips & tongue while walking across the grounds toward the female. The pain must be unendurable. Surely you can take the time to accustom your gorgeous horses to bit-less reins. 🇨🇦🇺🇸.

Lana Blakely Horses are not humans they do not feel love, in the wild it is the highest horse which breeds with the highest mare the mare doesn’t care care who she breeds with. But the highest stallion does he will fight other stallions for breeding rights. On occasion the mare will kick another horse off and say that she is not ready.
