I just got myself one of these and I absolutely agree with you 100% about your tool watch comment. All these expensive pieces of jewelry out there it's hard to find a solid swiss tool watch and this thing is a home run. For the money you can't beat it (unless you toss out heritage). I will say the Seamaster Planet Ocean is one that still has a tool watch look to it... but I can't really spend 2-3k more for it and feel like I got that much more for my money.

I've always considered Breitling a "bling" watch due to their extra large cases, busy dials and high polish. However, this re-design (as well as some of their other newer series) are much more my style. I started looking for an 'everyday diver' to replace an Oris 65 I sold. I originally was looking hard at the Black Bays, but decided it was too similar to the Oris and the retro-look is starting to wear on me. I love the simple, modern styling of this Breitling. The matte dial/bezel, brushing and subtle polish make it a great watch for all occasions. I got one used but like-new for a great deal and with 20 months left on the warranty. My only gripe is the clasp as it feels cheap - a milled, push button would be a much better fit. Overall, very happy with my purchase.

So I think I'll buy the Breitling, which is also very nice and costs €1,000 less! They are watches of a similar quality right?

That’s actually very nice. The grey hands are cool. I would agree about tool watches. Definitely my preference. I would definitely say the modern Submariner is to flashy, The older references are much nicer. I would suggest a no date version with the 3 to match the rest of the dial. I think that would look great. I would also agree on the Seamaster 300 Pro, too flashy. I really like the planet Ocean, mainly beacause it still looks like a tool watch.

It’s beautiful and distinctively Breitling in style. I prefer non framed apertures more frequently than not. I feel that they accentuate the close tolerance between the dial and the date wheel. Often it appears that a potato chip couldn’t be fit between the space which is an aspect lost when framed.

The larger a dive watch is the better it can be seen in murky conditions. As an all round sports watch 42mm is the sweet spot.

Wears like a 40, I have a 6.75” too and usually go for 39 to 40. But I think the 42 is perfect and have seen a guy with a 6.5” wrist wear the 44 great , so the numbers here are just on paper keep that in mind , some watches wear differently

What you said about the Omega and new Rolexes really rings true for me. Do they have technically superior movements? Yes. But what they've traded in are their tool watch heritages. I'm currently between the Tudor Pelagos and the Superocean 42

@@ChrisMarshall1978007hats s strange take. I own a Sub, PO and the watch in the video. Other than the clasp the Tudor is far inferior in build quality. Tudor isn't really in the same class as Brietling. They really don't play in the same arena. Tudor has nothing to compete with a Navitimer etc. Tudor doesn't play in the $7000 to $10000 arena. The build quality on Tudor is inferior. Tudor has nothing in build quality to my Navitimer. Zero. Brietling, Omega, Rolex, IWC, GS are peers. Tudor is not. It's a underbrand for a reason. Top out at around $5000 or so. Been collecting for over 30 years. Nothing against Tudor at all, but Brietling quality is a step above. The bezel on my SO is fit with screws, on my Sub and PO it is friction fit. For example. The clasp is milled but the closure is stamped. On the PO and Sub the whole thing is milled. They all have their strengths and weaknesses.

Breitling fanboy here I have five. Wearing a 25 yo Chrono cockpit right now. I did recently go to the dark side and pick up the Tudor Pelagous in Blue. Didn't realize until I watched this how close both of the watches are in specs. Both unashamed tool watches for sure. By Breitling Diver is a super ocean heritage II Black with the Red gold bezel on rubber. Way to pretty to really to be a diver like these two.

If this was truly intended to be a divers watch, why wouldn’t it have a divers extension? As a diver myself I wear my watch (Sinn U50)on my wrist over my neoprene wetsuit. If I didn’t have the divers extension I wouldn’t be able to do this. That’s a very important component that, while I love the look of the SuperOcean, it would be useless in an actual diving scenario.

Taco Hans bunch of f^^^^. Yes omega has better in house movement in this league. However for being a deep sea tool the Breitling has: automatic helium valve/Omega does not, Breitling in the 46mm is up to 6,600ft/Omega is only 1000ft and the rest of Breitling sizing is more than 300m too, lumen in Breitling is stronger, the 46mm version comes with DLC which is great for being a tool and not only a shiny piece/Omega does not, Breitling superior sapphire crystal purity and superior double AR coating is a killer against Omega in this model, lastly Breitling has secured screwed bezel/Omega does not and Rolex neither. This is a must in a commercial diving setting, as you can pop-off the bezel easily with heavy equipment, none of the rest of upscale divers has this safety measure. Yes if you are a desk wank-off user I understand why the Omega, but if you use this as a diver tool the Breitling will beat Omega by far. Aside from movement this is a superior tool.
