This BRENDA LAB series is a Portland Art Museum partnership with BRENDA ARTS, supported by Oregon Community Foundation. Artist and educator Spencer Garland created BRENDA ARTS as an interdisciplinary arts program focused on media literacy for BIPOC youth. This year's partnership video series with the Museum will introduce kids to art in the Museum's collection through a Black history and Afrofuturist lens. In this second episode of BRENDA LAB, Spencer Garland looks at the work, Green Star Quilt (2019) by artist Wally Dion (Canadian and Yellow Quill First Nation/Salteaux, born 1976). Green Star Quilt is made with circuit boards, brass wire and copper tube, and it is currently on view at the Portland Art Museum.
