That was sad and joyful to watch, I can remember when you had that double mattress! What I learned about getting a new car (I had an 20 year old Honda Jazz) is that the soul of the car and all the memories contained within aren't actually the car itself. It's you. I felt quite sad when my old Honda was taken away but my Zafira quickly felt the same as the Honda had, especially when I car camped around North Wales in it, and I then realised the car gets imbued with your energy, and that stays with you regardless of what you drive. I look forward to seeing what you got planned and will enjoy watching a new chapter of your vehicle camping journey. Hope and your family have a lovely Christmas 🎄 😊

Sad to see the car go like this. I've seen you a few times driving around Shrewsbury. DPF faults are quite common in older cars, normally a regen would fix things but my 60 plate had a completely blocked filter which caused quite a bit of damage and took it off the road for a week. The independent garage I use sent the filter to somewhere in Atcham to get it professionally cleaned (cost about £300) and the car now runs better than it has in the 4 years I've owned it Maybe this happening is just a step towards the van life dream and bigger adventures I'd like to wish you are your family a merry christmas and look forward to what 2023 brings for your channel

Hi mate the oil is probably the oil cooler leaking internally causing them to mix, the dpf just needs a forced Regen which you can probably do on that scanner or the pressure sensor pipe is broken comming off the dpf, keep up the good work love the vids 😊

Legendary vehicle! You've both been an inspiration, pal. And from one Shrewsbury mon to another it's always good to see you pootling around here and the neighbouring counties; so many of the spots you go for are very familiar to me - the pass you take to Bala I used to take an ice cream van over on the regular; I've run all the way round Vyrnwy; my little family and I have nearly been blown off the top of the Lawley. You do such a great job of getting the feel of these places on film. So many options ahead though; it's surprising how little you need when you're on the road. The dog and I had seven days around Scotland on the NC500 in an MX5 with a tent in the boot this last summer! All the best for whatever's next Brandon - hope to bump into you one of these days!

My Mrs has the same motor with a 1.9 dci, had the same problem a couple of times, I used a snap On machine to do regen then cleared the codes, was all good for about 6 months then it come on again, this time I did the regen by driving at constant 3000 rpm plus for a good hour and the light went off by itself. All good since.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's oil cooler that's gone as that would probably clog the dpf up with oil I had exactly the same on a Citroen c5

If the head gasket is bad, the coolant usually goes into the oil. Not the other way around. If there are oil cooling lines that run through the radiator, it's possible that the radiator needs replaced.

Commiserations, nice bike though. Fit a basket and buy a tent. A head gasket gone, shows as white, frothy oil. Have a look in your oil filler cap. When you skim a head, you take the top of the engine off and remove (skim) it make sure it is perfectly flat and not buckled, ready to take a new head gasket.

That looked like an oil cooler issue there.. happened to my ford cmax.. replaced the oil cooler, flushed out the cooling system and never had any problems afterwards.

Normally with a head gasket leak, you get white smoke from the exhaust, and the coolant is milky, not black. May not be as bad as you think.

If coolant mixes with the oil, the engine will not be able to cool or lubricate itself properly. can result in overheating and increased engine wear. Keep an eye on your temperature gauge and refrain from driving it do a thorough coolant and oil flush on your vehicle. This will prevent the oil and coolant from causing more damage to your engine also have the sensors checked sometimes they are faulty sounds like head gasket is gone not the actual motor yet as it is still running there easy to repair if all else fails look into a recon motor with a warranty it may be cheaper to get one than fix it dont be put off with garages telling u they to busy as long u pay them they will fix it in no time at all

How very sad. I do know how you feel. I lost my Toyota Yaris last year after vandals smashed all the windows out and bent the door frames in the process. That little car had taken me on so many adventures and I still miss it. I was gifted my Toyota matrix, which is a great car, but it's not the Yaris. It has allowed me to start doing some car camping though as it is longer, which is awesome! Hope this is not the ned, but the beginning to your next car/van life chapter. I feel for you buddy, we spent £8000 on a Nissan Elgrand, 18 months later the head gasket went. NO ONE Country wide wanted to fix it. You can get head gasket sealer .. Rad weld only for rads not for head gasket.. The head gasket seal will generally give ya about 2yrs b4 you will have to do it.. again

Yeh I did use that in the end 👍 sorted it for now but it was worth getting rid at that point incase it comes back

Head skim is that the head might be warped and needs to be flattened by taking some metal off the head

Yeah it’s a big job but if you have sentimental feelings for the car then do it. I wondered why you put rad weld in ? That’s for the radiator if you have a split or leak in the cooling system. Steel seal or K-seal are for head gaskets not rad weld just saying they might work if you just want to try and then scrap the car if it doesn’t that’s if you’re not going to pay for it to be repaired. Basically skimming the head is making sure it’s perfectly flush so it seals properly as sometimes when you blow a head gasket it can warp the metal slightly causing a bigger problem. Hope this helps and you figure out what to do. But my advice is try the steel seal or K-seal if it doesn’t work don’t spend any more money on it and get your van. But ultimately it’s your decision. Thanks for the advice Mike 👍 I went for steel seal in the end and it worked so I decided to sell her to a national dealer. Didn't get much more than scrap for me sadly but it will now go towards a new vehicle

I am so sorry this has happened to your car but in all honesty please don’t waste any money on it, it may work skimming the head and last for a few months but really it’s time to say goodbye to your trusty steed. Just because there is oil in the water dosnt mean head gasket has gone. them code's you have you may be able to get rid of them by giving it a different regen with your computer. It might be that the oil cooler is leaking to see if it is you can connect the 2 pipes together and bypass it 1st you will have to flush out your coolant system as there is oil in there

For the oil to be that black in the water. Is there a oil cooler on the engine and gone. If the head gasket is gone the car will be over heating. But is it just time to move on.

The head will need to be skimmed either way as the cylinder head warps under temperature! But they are chatting crap about "being harder as it's "high mileage" ( even though that's low for a diesel car ! )

My first car was a mk2 escort with a head casket gone bought for 25 quid i stripped it all down skimmed head and rebuilt her great little car however you just cant do that nowadays so much electronics on them and specialist tools its just not that easy sorry to your car go but got a funny feeling your going bigger and better .....maybe an old ambulance.....lol

You needed to try and do a static regeneration of the dpf filter, it’s choked and that’s your engine light fault, as for your oil/ water mix it’s likely to have been a faulty oil cooler and a cooling system flush. Sack your mechanic friends sounds like they aren’t very capable to say something that age and mileage isn’t worth fixing is nonsense, sure they weren’t tyre fitters 🤔😂

I wouldn't have the foggiest how to swap it out mate to be fair and labour would be more than that unfortunately.. especially this time of year 😢. It's now been sold though so new vehicle for the new year 👍

to save you getting stung as i did when buying a van i would suggest you buy from a garage that offers a 12 month mot with the sale, where the van has no mention of pans on the under side of the van as they are an obvious sign of something being hidden and at least you should be sure the dpf, cat and anything to do with the legalities of the van conforming to the emissions test are met. do the online mot check etc and do a hpi check. once you have the van take it straight to a garage you trust for a physical and pre mot check to make sure they have not just had it pass a test to sell it and hopefully you will have a good van. call me Mr mistrusting but i bought privately only to find after kitting the van out that it needed a dpf as the one on the van had been tampered with and would not pass an mot and needed to be replaced at a cost of £1000 plus with no guarantee of passing should i spend that money. lets be careful out there.

@@BrendanExplores i sold it on at an expencive loss of £2500 plus to a chap who i made very aware of what was wrong and needed with the van besides the dpf as he had a friend who he said would give him an mot on it as it was son long as it passed the smoke test ? unfortunately i dont have such friends so took the hit as if it failed it was worth £250 scrap. dont forget as mentioned in the past i am only 12 miles from you so if you need some help and advice when building a van give me a shout
