If you get tired of using the axe for tree roots, you could try tree cutters/loppers (look like bolt-cutter sized tin snips). Used them all the time when digging doing field work and they work great for clearing roots.

Loving this series, just wish there were a cameraman! My instinct is that it would really help show the scale and angles of the trail better to have a person in frame with them. Isolation is what it is, though.

Hello Bren, That excavator shouldn't be over heating but a few things could cause it to! I'm guessing you are running MAX rev's, try to run on 75% power and only use full rev's to do 1off tasks. You need to check coolent, these machines like pure coolent no water mix just give it the consentrate straight.... You have done a good bit of work with it so try build a run then get out and do the hand work before the next feature. Most definitely the machine needs a full service as you would give the Landy also grease should be checked everyday and finally that hydraulic claw works the machine way harder than a bucket so only put that on if you really need it! 👍🏽

Also check the radiator and filters, could be clogged with dust, might need a clean out with the airline

@@BrendanFairclough could be a split hose if you're losing coolant, but by clogged radiator I mean the fan sucks dust in and clogs the outside of the radiator, so air can't get through properly to cool it, worth a check, looks pretty dusty where you're digging

Brendan Fairclough your excavator is likely overheating because of operating on the steep bank. Non-level operation will mean gravity has a much different effect in the flow of engine oil around the engine and as such will overheat. Use the blade to level the machine as much as possible, even if you drag a few logs underneath it.

Excavator is over heating because it is operating at too much of an angle. The engine oil won’t be circulating enough as gravity will be effecting it differently. Use the blade to level it better.

Ya need to take a long log or two of one of the cut down trees and put it into the ground under the tree that you forced under the first jump so the tree has a solid support ;) Or it's going to fall down at next wind/rain and a) destroy the jump b) die and trash all your effort to save it despite being in the way ;)
