First time I heard this song was at a intertribal gathering, song by a scottish-cherokee brother, with just him and his guitar, he said the scottish colonized the ozarks mountains where the cherokee lived, and they lived together in the mountains, so i always thought it come from there. There is no doubt that this is a scottish song, but Irish and Scottish trad music is very similar. I would say Ireland has remembered and revived alot of our trad songs and Scotland doesn't remember alot of their traditional songs. Great song, beautifully sung.
