Thanks for covering this series. Ultimate is forever associated with Spectrum, and these 4 games have added importance because of that. Plus excellent production values and a unique look!

Its not a reflection of quality, he has close to 20k - its more a reflection of what people playing. As the years go by less and less people play the 64, hell hardly a soul plays the ps3 any longer.

@@MegaasAlexandros though I agree with some of your thoughts, there a still a lot of middle aged men/women like myself that grew up with a C64 and nostalgia for old fond memories are always a strong point of reliving a better time of our lifes. 70s and 80s music has never really died people still listen to it. Plus other channels focused on older hardware and games have much larger subscribers.

@@MegaasAlexandros Makes me wonder why there are so many 80s 90s inspired retro games on new hardware if there is very little money to be made why would they bother. A re-release of a re-release was only just launched on PS5 Doom 1 and 2. The Jeff Minter back catalogue was released on Steam, PS5, Xbox. God knows why when there is no money to be made, nobody wants to relive these old childhood games... It's a mystery then I guess.

Played Entombed many times. I came across the other games later that were similar in graphics and gameplay which made me realize the same developers were behind all these. Very unique series, and I am glad they exist.

Waiting for an Ultimate play the game release back in the day was like waiting for a big movie release at the cinema. They were the talk of the playground, and everyone wanted to play them. Those were great days.

Man I love this channel! We must be the exact same age, which is probably the same as most people watching you lol. I had most of these games on my C64 back then, bought every issue of Zzap! 64, just literally lived and breathed my Commodore 64 at 10 years old! Had a big break from gaming in the late 80's to the early 2000's (spent the entire time skateboarding!) but got back in to it a bit through the PS1 and Gamecube, and now at almost 50 have come full circle with a high end PC and the one thing that gets me as stoked as my C64 at 10 years old - my Steam Deck OLED. Anyway, keep making videos!

I had pirated copies of these games and never really knew what the goal of each one was. I played Staff of Karnath enough to figure out that I needed to find pentagram pieces, then take them down and place them on the obelisk, however I could only ever find 12 of the 16 pieces. And even then, I only managed to get about 10 of them. There were rooms that I could never figure out the purpose of, if any, and creatures I couldn't get past, despite trying every spell. Eventually, I gave up. I always thought that having the instructions would make a huge difference, then I eventually read them on the net and realized that they don't really tell you anything. Entombed looked interesting, but I hated the rooms with limited air. It basically served as a time limit, and I hate time limits in games. I never really played the other two that much. I disliked how easy it was to get hit and lose your health/life.

I hate timers as well when they are there for no reason , Entomed timer makes logical sense and it only in certain rooms ... Once you know the solution its basic ... I hate games that just have times on lvls to rush you ... Its so annoying

I had entombed and I did enjoy it. But boy I could have used that map. I never came close to finishing it and even in retrospect it seems beyond my abilities as a 9 year old. I loved the atmosphere of the tomb though. It really sparked my imagination.

Great memories indeed! Can't really believe it's the same guy in all four games... unless he got into Nick Cave during 1985 and changed his look, that must be it! 7:28 though... seems like that's NOT how to carry a sword! 😳

I remember being hugely disappointed when it was initially released, after jumping from Speccy to C64 I expected the graphics to be in another league and while I appreciate the blocky style more so today and understand the trade offs, back then I just couldn't get into the game as I felt the presentation cast shade on the C64. PS. less AI artwork maybe - the images look okay, if you like that kind of vibe, but I don't think they quite fit your retro aesthetic ?
