16 years!! Wow. That is really cool. This video is from 1 year ago so clearly you already moved lol. One other idea to consider....keeping the boxes the regular size, putting cds in just like you did, but using the space on top to pack clothes lol. :) I swear, dollys and carts are God's gift to man!!! lol.

Nice new home, Brendon. When me and wifey moved to our house in spring 2005, moved all my music myself to try to avoid damage. 👍 Been seventeen years now and still don't have all my cds arranged how I'd prefer and you have nearly twice my collection. Enjoy your new digs and best thing I've liked about a house is not having to be worried about blasting the neighbors w/my Bose 301s. Thanks brother.

For my 5,500 CD’s and moving, I purchased the UltraBoxx from Bags Unlimited that is a vinyl type corrugated box with dividers, made for CD’s and holds 100 CD’s. Very similar to your box idea but already sized for CD’s and they stack great. Once I arrived at my new home and unpacked, I ended up selling the boxes to a local record store who in turn sold them immediately to one guy. My only complaint with the Ultra Boxx is, the corrugated vinyl lid was hard to to get the tabs to stay put because of the thickness of the vinyl. I easily solved that by using some clear packing tape on the inside of the lid where it snaps together and voila, fixed. I love Bags Unlimited sleeves and alphabetical dividers too.
@shari247peace2 жыл бұрын
And I would add, I kept all mine in alphabetical order. I stacked in alphabetical order, then created labels for the 56 boxes and labeled them 1 of 55, 2 of 55, etc. so once I got to my new home, they were easily sorted by box, then putting them on shelves easy.
@BrendonSnyder2 жыл бұрын
That’s great to know! It’s always good for people to have multiple options. I’m glad the Ultra Box worked well for you. I’m looking forward to getting most of mine out of these boxes after I have the custom shelves made.
@shari247peace2 жыл бұрын
@@BrendonSnyder Shelves will be stellar! I’m sure your favorite local record stores would love to have the boxes you cleverly created too when you are finished with the boxes for their stock or for a customer. I imagine once you have everything on shelves, in the order you prefer, that will feel like a true triumph. Something very satisfying about all your music in its place. I’m hoping we get to see a video of all that. Thanks for sharing your journey!

Wow! Congrats on the house, Brendon! It is frustrating trying to find actual cd storage boxes at banker box prices! As for organizing, I keep my organization simple as possible. It's either alphabetized Rock or its Jazz or its Classical. At the end of the Rock section, maybe a few special sections, usually small: soundtracks, world music. But that is it! But, truly, housing cds on milled shelves, bookcases, cd holders, whatever. It is so much work! The payoff is when you can just go to your T's and reach for your Talking Heads cd. Congrats on that cool looking house you bought. Honestly I was worried about you in that apartment with all those cds. You were there for a long time. It sounds like you were not a party animal, but only went out at night to shows on occasion. I am amazed at all you accomplished while doing these vids at the same time and working and buying the house and buying cds and prepping a move! Congrats again!! Can't wait to see the new cd setup!

One homeowner tip: Design your cd storage so that it is away from water pipes above or in the walls and watch out for pipes and wires if going into the studs for hanging shelving. Also goes for your stereo equipment. One burst pipe and your collection could get damaged badly and I found out that the insurance company won't cover cds, so you might want to look into that also, maybe get a ryder? rider? policy if you can and video the collection and store the video of it in a safe deposit box. It is a considerable investment!

Hi Brendon. I enjoyed this video. Really pleased for you that you've found a nice, bigger place in the suburbs. You did a good job of making the move stress-free. I'm glad to see the wall of wonder made the trip with you ... Re the space that 11,000+ CDs takes up, a solution would be to put the ones you don't like as much into plastic wallets, keeping all the art work and ditching the jewel case. I do this, partly because a lot of the CDs I buy are second-hand and the cases are damaged or unsightly. Mind you, if you're going to have custom-shelving, it will look spectacular; see for example the CD wall on Norman Maslov's site. All the best, Carl

Congratulations on the move and having your own house! Lots more room for your collection. I am seriously thinking about finding some of those banking boxes you use for storage, since they are a perfect fit for 90 CDs. Though I have my own growing collection of special CDs (including nearly 100 Rock Candy reissues) that I plan to keep for as long as I live, I've also picked up other random CDs that I would eventually sell at flea markets; however, I have not sold any since the pandemic began. I may start again this summer up until I have to go back to teaching this fall.

Brendon- First off, Congratulations on the move and new house! That is awesome! I thought this video was great. I just loved getting the tour of the empty old apartment as well as the brief tour of the new home. Cant wait to see all of the cd's on display eventually. Question- Will you need to get a vehicle now that you are in NJ or can you still get around by public transport everywhere you need to go(I know you can still take the subway into Manhattan for work but was more curious about getting to local stores and such in Jersey). Good luck with getting settled.

Nice place Brendon. Looks like a lovely little house inside. I don't have as big a collection as you do, but I have always moved myself also. I have never used professional movers, just a lot of trips back and forth in the van. Now I have a small SUV, so the next time it will mean even more trips. Hopefully I won't have to move from here for a long time. I've been at this house now for 12 years.
@yyman232 жыл бұрын
Always pack everything and never trust the movers, that's my moto. Last time I moved I loaded the cd's into milk crates in alphabetical order and moved them myself. Since then, I've acquired thousands more, together with a couple thousand LPs and too much stereo equipment. It's going to be a pain in the butt, but no mover is touching my music 🙂 Congrats on the new place Brendon!

I would have prefer to do it myself but not really an opinion in Manhattan. You have to get in and get out and avoid the chaos. That’s why movers were hired and still it was an all day affair.
@waltzfordebbie99592 жыл бұрын
Don't wanna rain on your parade , but I recommend Iris 30.6Qt plastic storage boxes that fit 140 CDs in each, all flat, one level. Plus they have handles. I had them stacked up for years 12 high. Perhaps you can go higher but I haven't tried. Good video.
@BrendonSnyder2 жыл бұрын
The reason I don’t like this is that they don’t hold the CDs tight. The sides of the plastic bins are sloped and not vertical so you never get a nice tight fit. Too much jostling. The banker box is a tight 90 CDs with no movement will filled which is preferable IMO. But in the end of the day it’s all what works best for each person.
@jaredl.84652 жыл бұрын
Congratulations again on your new place! I see lots of room painting in your future. And if you plan to keep the bulk of your collection in the storage boxes, may I suggest creating a label (with content category) and applying it to the outside of each box. I have a Brother label maker and used it when we recently put a lot of our stored items into plastic totes.

Congratulations on the new digs! At 11:52 of the video, I noticed you have some CDs stacked .... and I store CDs in stacks too. I don't Ever stack them more than 17 high, even if they're all in plastic jewel cases ... and of course, the ones in the newer thin packaging go on top of the stacks. I wondered if you have a certain number which is Your limit of stacking. As I say, mine is 17 .... what's your limit? Hope you can answer. I gave the vid a like! 8-)

I found it tedious to move only 1000 CDs, can't imagine ten times as many! Also, I wasn't as careful, I just moved them in these large IKEA bags. That said, I moved everything myself so I made sure to be as careful as possible. Something I've found helpful when I rearrange shelves is to take photos of how it looked before.
