@ Shannan Rhodes Appreciate it. OU will be fine. Hind side, Benedict-Riley had his mind on other opportunities long before we played Baylor; my personal opinion, he was distracted. Still, we are happy coming into the SEC. We hired the right coach to guide us into the toughest conference there is. I’m certain we will learn to crawl before running. New HC Venables knows what it takes to get OU on the UGA, AL, LSU level; no disrespect towards the remaining SEC Juggernauts.

Every die hard OU fan would take Bob in a heartbeat. What he has done to step up and be interim coach shows the kind of guy he truly is. But , I respect him enough to know he is OK being retired, he gave a huge part of his life to OU football. Being the legend is a good role he can live out life with. Personally I like Venerables because he has about 15 or so years under Stoops, so I think his ethics will be in order.

Dan Lanning. If not, Venables. His former time here he was under the pressure of sharing with Mike Stoops. He has proven to be a good DC at Clemson when he had no distractions. He would be a 15 year man and dedicated to OU. Lanning would probably head at some point to the NFL. Also Venables would keep some of the staff. That would help ease the players mind. Bud, Barry, Bob. Hopefully Brent will be added to coaches that won a National Title at OU.

Question why did you leave asu. I live about 30 minutes from Tempe and just started getting heavy into asu football and love watching all your old asu blogs getting to see the little behind the sense of the stadium I can’t see while I’m there. Nah I think Bob enjoys retirement and he's done so much and then some for Oklahoma already. Venables has earned a shot at a HC gig if he wants it. He could have been a D1 HC years ago but I think he was content being a DC. For that time it made the most sense to him. If offered, he may decide this is the job that to take that next step as the top dog. He has ties here and he has valuable experience recruiting the SE which would prove invaluable. He didn't necessarily have that luxury the first go around. Plus he's added some tantalizing hardware to his resume since then. Time will tell.
