A perfect 3-minute encapsulation of the cataclysmic Hetfield/Ulrich/Hammett/Burton songwriting team. MoP was a 55 minute E minor tour de force that melded metal, hardcore, punk and psychedelic neo-classical. It's a shame it only lasted 3 years.

Hey, how did you great control on your picking, I've been practicing this solo for awhile now. And my findering is all proper but my pick is notorious. Any advice and/or reference would be greatly appreciated.
@BretSnyderMusic4 жыл бұрын
I've had the pick fly out of my hand, so I don't want to misguide you with my own picking style because it isn't great. Check out Troy Grady though. He's one of the most well-traveled guitarists on the planet. I've been following him on and off for 20 years while he's been on a quest to learn the most efficient way to shred. He's sat down with and dissected the best guitar technicians using high speed cameras to capture how they pick and has created a long-running documentary called Cracking the Code. The guy's an absolute machine. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3OTkmeBqc6agbs

What guitars, amps and pedals are you using? Are all your sounds/effects achieved through your audio interface and DAW? If you don't mind please answer all the questions. All your audio in your videos sound very good. I'm just curious if it's all daw magic? Doesn't sound quite like this in your studio or wherever you're recording, correct? I'm using this information for my own educational purposes. Thank you for any help.
@BretSnyderMusic4 жыл бұрын
I generally use my KH-602 for most of my songs as the active EMG's sound more powerful and clean than any other guitar I own. It has extreme value for the price. I plug directly into a Pod HD500X, running through a modeled Fender Blackface for clean amps and I have around 8 amps for mixing metal, many of which are variations of a Mesa Boogie DR. I usually double track, hard left and hard right and rarely quad track if the gain is too high (Pantera). In that case, I find that mixes sound tighter with 2 guitars over 4. That will get you a decent sound, but only so. Most of the magic comes from mixing, as guitars generally sound very muddy on their own. You can go down a financial rabbit hole when it comes to mixing plugins from the likes of FabFilter, NI, iZotope, Slate, SoundToys, UAD, Waves, etc. Most of the EQ's, compressors, delays, and other effects are personal preference that will all yield similar results, but there are a few plugins that I find magical: Waves CLA Guitars for guitar tracks, and UAD Pultec or Massive Passive for mix busses. If mixing is new territory for you and you want in on the cheap, Slate is a great option with its Virtual Mix Rack. I'm not a fan of their rental model, but if you want in REALLY cheap, you can go that route. Just beware that as soon as you unsubscribe to their software, your mixes will unsubscribe as well. SoundToys is also an option, offering every plugin in one affordable package. Waves plugins are almost permanently on sale as well. At any rate, dive in and have fun. Best of luck to you.
