Is that a 1436 size Jon boat? I've be wondering how it could be fishing 3 person on it, casting standing up on calm water of course.
@brettbarley6 ай бұрын
Yes it is. Works great but would love a 15hp on it. 2 people ideal… but 3 is fine if all are aware of weight displacement.

Hey! Incredible vid. Is that a freshwater trolling motor? If so, how does it hold up in saltwater and what do you do to mitigate corrosion?
@brettbarley3 жыл бұрын
Yes it is. Came with the boat when I bought it. Not ideal. I’ve had to replace some stuff but it still works. I wash it off after every use

This was fantastic to watch! Wish I could find areas like this. We have a home in Bux, just a few hundred yards east of Bux SeaFood on sound. You prob know the place well. Always down there looking for reds, and hope to grab a micro-skiff of some sort in the near future, but rely on kayak now. Always wanted to get out to reefs behind house, but about 2 mile paddle, and wind has to be right. Be back down next week and will be on the hunt once again. Love to get some tips on similar spots...but know they're hard to come by and don't blame anyone for keeping under radar...

This is a little late but what hp Motor is that. Couldn’t tell

9.8 Tohatsu
@noahjohns79543 жыл бұрын
@@brettbarley thanks for answering! Do you know how much speed it gets? I just want to get to my spot faster than a trolling motor, against the tide sometimes in the Chesapeake bay. So I’ll probably end up getting a 15, 20 or 25 so I can go pretty fast against stuff like a 5 knot current if I come across it.
@brettbarley3 жыл бұрын
@@noahjohns7954 my 14' Jon boat will go 17-19mph by myself... but I wouldn't bank on the 9.8hp being a good call for out on the Chesapeake bay. that's pretty weak power for places with current and swell.
@noahjohns79543 жыл бұрын
I’ll probably go 15 or 20 Suzuki or Yamaha then. Both reliable, should push me against some nice currents especially since the boat has less surface area for current to push. I’m mostly going to stay in the York or ware river though, don’t want to push the weather envelope in a flat bottom even if I know how to ride the swells in it safely.
@jamessawyer87443 жыл бұрын
The key to this is everyone on that boat has some real sea legs. Half the girls i try to do this with almost flip the boat over freaking out over a fish 🤣🤣🤣

I heard fishing with a Jon boat especially in the ocean is not ideal. I don’t plan on going far out but close to the shore I think I can make it work.
@brettbarley3 жыл бұрын
I would not take this in the ocean, not through an inlet anyway. May one day launch from the beach on a slick calm flat day and fish near shore but not likely. This is fishing the Pamlico Sound... which I didn’t think was good for a jon boat, but is totally fine! You just pick your days

If anyone wants a tutorial on how to get catch nothing but pinfish, lose a million soft plastics and run aground please let me know! Ill be in the outer banks in a month, and while Brett makes catching trout look easy, I assure you it is not. What the heck am I doing wrong?!!
@brettbarley4 жыл бұрын
you won't lose soft plastics if you fish Z-Manns... crucial for fighting the pinfish teeth. Man I have days just like that as well... but I also pour hours and hours and hours into finding the fish, so I have killer days like this one too. This season has been some of the best Drum fishing in years, and Trout should fire back up too. You'll be getting here at an epic time. where you staying?
