@@CS-wn2sz Hindsight is 20/20, and while either Mac Jones or Justin Fields would’ve helped tremendously (though at 8 you would never consider taking Jones without trading down), I still believed in Sam Darnold at the time (as did the Panthers), and Jaycee Horn finally gave them that lockdown CB1 they’ve been trying to get since Norman had his one good season in 2015. Now they have Horn, Gilmore, Jackson, and Henderson (who was a top 10 pick a year ago as their CB4). They are loaded at the most important position on defense. Corner is the one position where good players will always be good because pass rushers typically need other pass rushers and same with LB.

Welcome to the Carolina Panthers Family Jaycee Horn!!! This guys is a BEAST with an awesome pettigree, extremely high work ethic. While I was disappointed that we didn’t draft OT Sewell, it quickly turned around around with the selection of Horn. Especially with the Falcons selection of Kyle Pitts. South Carolina vs Florida game he held Pitts to 57 yards (2 touchdowns.) Both players are top draw & IMHO, Horn gave him a very competitive & tough game overall. We’ve got some big/tough to cover receivers in the NFC South - Jones, Evans, Thomas, Galladay, just to name a few & we had trouble getting off of the field last year. Maybe Fitterer is laying the building blocks for a Legion of Doom 2.0. Only time will tell. #CarolinaPanthers

@mroverdose143 жыл бұрын
As a former corner who played mostly in the "Low-shoulder position" I can appreciate this video! Honesty positioning on the field is when I used different shoulders. Low-Shoulder in redzone and short yardage if the WR wasn't over 6'3 or jumped like a kangaroo (also film would tell me what they like to do from different aliments). high-Shoulder which I wasn't as good at for long yardage situations. I remember giving up a 12 yard hitch cause I couldn't get around the WR and the QB placed the ball low and away. As a shorter smaller guy(5'10.....really 5'9ish) I was able to play the better route runners but for the big Guys I played underneath and forced the QB to throw better passes over the Top of me, which I changed vs Certain guys. DB is really a feel position and you have feel the Guy you playing against
@BrettKollmann3 жыл бұрын

I am a Carolina Gamecock fan. Horn put on a clinic against Auburn last year, notching the ONLY two interceptions of his Carolina career. The rest of the time he played second fiddle to Israel Mukuamu and racked up pass interference penalties at inopportune times. Brett, I appreciate your analysis because I was mystified as to why Horn is garnering such attention. His ceiling might be astronomically high, and his resume vs. top receivers is impressive, but he quit on the team last year before opting out. He was invisible (except for PI calls, one glaring one in the end zone) in blowouts against LSU, Texas A&M, and Ole Miss.

At 9:30 the 'problem' with your assessment is that there's no way to know without speaking to him what his coach was asking him to do. Maybe the coach is telling him to be aggressive and look to undercut and that he should rely on that safety for help over the top. I remember playing basketball in high school and getting in trouble with one of my coaches because he wanted me to play really tight pressure defense on my man and to rely on my big man for help if I got beat. I wouldn't do it. The dude wasn't a shooter, and couldn't get past me if I kept him at arm's length. I understand that my coach wanted me to try and be risky and create turnovers, but then someone like you would've been doing a breakdown video like this one telling the world (not really, this wasn't even varsity) that I was too dumb to hang bang and not play such risky defense.
