How bad would it suck if you had to make a living as a respected session guitarist, sitting comfortably in your custom home studio, with a permanent grin, knocking out sweet-sounding riffs for pretty decent money, and in the process instruct, entertain and motivate an entire web universe of guitar junkies? Answer: It would not suck at all.

Amazing, thank you! As a player, I've always been hugely inspired by horn players because they can be so expressive, and I think we guitarists can learn so much from them. And TP's my favourite guitarist precisely because his sense of feel does for the guitar what Stan Getz did for the tenor sax. Bravo!

Hey Tim! Honored to share my comments and know you will read them! I first noticed your playing on a certain concert video from 1985. Will not mention it by name as I don't think it defines you as a musician but you had a hat and suspenders on and for that particular song, you played a sweet intro to the song with some jangling chords and then some really sweet harmonics before breaking into the song itself. I wished I could find it but it seems to have disappeared from youtube now. If you can direct me back to it that would be really cool. Anyway, I noticed your style and skills on that and have ended up following you around the net and listening to your music. Really enjoying finding new stuff by you and glad to see you are very active today. Your guitar work is awesome and you have a really humble way about you. You seem like you could be anyone's uncle or cousin or brother who just happens to be a guitar virtuoso. Keep on with the videos. They mean a lot to those of us who are fans of really great lyrical guitar playing. You make me want to grab my son's guitar and try to emulate some of what you do, even if just a small bit. I am constantly listening and I wanted to say thanks!

Thanks for the awesome lesson! I'm still learning how to play guitar, and I'm sort of a hack when it comes to solos (usually staying within the single pentatonic scale of the key of the song). The idea of thinking about scales, 6ths, and arpeggios, of each chord gave me one of those "a-ha" moments.

Great video and both of you guys are amazing. One complaint... who thought it would be a good idea to keep cutting away from Tim's beautiful solo during the beginning of the vid? Every time he began one of those beautiful phrases, the camera cuts to shots of Tim at an angle. Very frustrating!!

Impeccable timing and the progressions just so tight . I live less than 3 miles from ludlow garage where the almond brothers recorded their live performance. I will never be a performer per say but you guys just make want to learn more and more cause we all there is no end!! But just watching how the pieces all fall together and how soloing is so tightly connected to the chords just opens up new avenues of possibilities. You guys are great! Thanks again always watching both you and Tim's videos there are others but it's these that take the cake!!

Beautiful soloing as usual Tim. I really love your style and you are so good at what you do. After playing guitar (as a hobby) for many years I'm just starting to get into some theory and putting more time into learning new ways to play chords and to have a serious go at soloing. You and Papastache are great mentors and I hope that I can play half as good as you guys..... one day. Keep the videos coming man, and thanks.

Thanks to Tim and Papastache for an awesome lesson. I wasn't able to make out the arpeggio he played along with the scale and the sixth. Actually, I'm having a hard time finding a slow, clear explanation anywhere of how different arpeggios are derived and played -- and especially how to link one gracefully with the next. (Maybe all this should be obvious to me, but it isn't,)
@harrymorris9406
@harrymorris9406 9 жыл бұрын
Jut play the notes of the chords you know that are in key. Try playing the root or fifth of them in a different octave to find the sound you like. In terms of playing them gracefully you could just play the arpeggios of the chords in a backing track, playing normal licks to get form one or another, or just in case you run out of arpeggios. :)
