The person I am buying it for is about 5’5”. The length of the product is listed as 64.9 inches on the carbon fiber as well as on the telescopic adjustable 1511. I’m wondering if the adjustment on the 1511 makes it longer than 64.9 inches or shorter. If the shortest length you can make it is the same as the fixed length of the carbon fiber I would like to buy the carbon fiber. Can anyone here answer that for me?

Some suggestions for minimising or eliminating the line trimmer cutting out if that is an issue ... -A Line Trimmer NOT a lawn mower. Use the right tool for the job and you will rarely have any problems. -Keep the electrical contacts between the battery and the device clean. Use isopropyl alcohol to keep the contacts on the device in brand new condition. Use compressed air to keep the contacts on the battery clean. -Make sure that that the battery is tightly coupled to the trimmer at all times. -With the dual speed unit, try to use it as much as possible on the low speed setting. Added benefit is longer battery life. -Always use the correct gauge of trimmer line. Using thicker line than specified by the manufacturer will lead to premature failure of the unit. -When using the trimmer without a guard - not advisable but many do it - keep the length of the line to no more than the maxiumum length specified by the manufacturer. Should not be an issue if you always have the guard installed. -Don't run the trimmer at full speed for several minutes at a time - especially in hotter conditions. Added benefit here is that it will extend the life of the trimmer motor.

The carbon fiber one actually is a variable speed , if you lightly hit the trigger it’s a lower speed. Love the review thank you.

Heads Up!! You talked about the Carbon Fiber model power kept dying and you just had to stop and restart. I tech these all day long and here in lies the issue. When you run any stick trimmer without a guard and the string length is too long it stresses the gear box on the trimmer, thus throwing default codes back to the head unit and will shut off the machine. This stress also can happen on a gas model, however, the gas engine can compensate for power. Technically running your Ego trimmer without a head guard voids your warranty on your machine.

@@gigglybeast I wouldn't hold Brett accountable for knowing everything about everything. this is not an Ego issue, this is a battery issue with string trimmers regardless of the brand. I can repeat the issue I stated with just about any model battery unit, regardless of manufacture. i agree with everything he has said about Ego trimmers as now it is 2024. lastly Brett does have a life and going back and monitoring ALL his videos and comments years later, give him a break.

Got burned with a proprietary attachment system - each company's system is theirs alone. They may choose to phase out support for the current system before your battery's 3-year limit, or another company's powerhead will suddenly look great, but you're locked in with high switching costs. Where to dump my expand-it attachments? *sigh* You'll probly see me dragging a #12 extension cord for my crappy electric hedge trimmer and the edger too....

I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use kzbin.infoUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

Thank you for a nice review of the trimmers. I have the carbon fiber and the power head/edger unit, and I am thrilled with them both. I have had the edger motor stop if I push the edger forward too quickly and the torque load on the motor is too great. The motors probably stopped for you on the trimmers because you don’t have the safety shield/cutter on your unit, so your string was probably longer than the trimmer was designed. It is possible this puts an additional torque load on the trimmer, causing it to stop.

The overload protection stopping the trimmer in heavy grass is because you took the guard off the trimmer. This allows the line diameter to become too large causing and increase load on the trimmer's motor. Thankfully Ego provided overload protection.

The first and every model put out should have been made to accept different attachments. My old B&D blower finally bit the dust yesterday. I had pretty much decided on Ego for a new blower & trimmer, and your video gave me a much needed education. I am vertically challenged and being able to adjust the length and other features of the ST1511T will suit me well. I was planning on buying the 615 blower, but when I went to Lowes, they only had the 650 in stock. Of course I bought it. But they did not have the ST1511T trimmer there, so I had to order it online. They had the blower & trimmer sold together, but it was not the right trimmer. The upside is the 650 blower comes with the 5 amp battery. Whoa, this thing is not a toy! It took about 20 minutes for the battery to finish charging and I brought it outside to clean up what was left from yesterday. This thing is so strong, it scared my dogs, lol. It took no time at all to clean up the sidewalk, street in front of my house and my patio. I can't wait to get the trimmer to see what it can do. With buying separate units, I will have two batteries, one 5 amp & on 2.5 amp. Thanks to your video, I knew what the difference was in the units, and I am confident I will have the right trimmer for me.

How long will the 2021 model operate doing standard trimming time wise with the 2.5 amp hour battery? Most of the ones I have found so far have 2.5 instead of the should be longer lasting 5.0 thanks

Thanks great review I picked up the 51T as recommended and couldn’t be happier. Since I’m a first time user of the trimmer my arms need to get used to the weight and motion. It’s a good workout and using muscles I never used before… awesome product

14:49 my favorite part of the video! For $199 the 2021 model is a steal deal for the average homeowner. Currently happy with my gas Echo 225 since I use it to cut neighbors lawns too, but if I was just doing my yard I would highly consider the EGO unit

Lol thanks Andy! It really is a great deal at $199. Especially if you have some extra batteries like I do. It's a no brainer.

Seems like these battery powered trimmers are all a little heavy. My Echo gas only weighs 11 lbs......4 more pounds or so makes a huge difference.

I’ve owned the 2021 model for over 3 months now. It’s the best battery powered trimmer. 200$ go a long way.

Lets hope that Ego put all of those features on all of their models. The two speed and the automatic loader and the adjustable handle, everyone would like to do edging (as long as its not too think)

That 2021 model looks pretty sick. Have you tried the pole saw attachment? I’m thinkin about picking it up for my maple in the back

I haven't, but if it's anything like all the other things I've used from them it will work great.

Ugh! You forgot to mention the best of the best of EGO string trimmers! The ST1620T 16" String Trimmer. It has the carbon fiber handle and the other features you like + a 16" head vs. the 15" heads on your units. This is better than all of those you reviewed and I love it! It was available in 2021 too....

Thank you for the video! I found it very helpful. However, I am a novice user who has never done the work! I am trying to help my parents clean up the dry dead tall grass in front of their front yard. Would you recommend purchasing the string trimmer, or should I buy the metal trimmer instead? Please help.

I had bought Ego line trimmer with I Q technology 2 yrs ago. Line will self release. Love it. However i have issues in feeding line & was not releasing too. It warrants for 5 yrs. The time the shop just change to a new head for it. That's great. This 2nd time i have not brought to the shop yet. Just wonder how can i do better next time to avoid this happen again.

Your back yard property reminds me of The Lawn Care Nuts back property/yard. Looks like a pretty nice neighborhood. 🤟🏻👍🏼💯

Your review was awesome! Even though this is over 2 years old everything still applies and DEFINATELY simplified things as I was so confused looking at all the different models. You helped me lock in to combinations for the PH1420 which has all the features from everything you described in the video (and multihead). Thank you!

Wish you had commented on the string advance system, i.e. bump vs the 16-inch model automatic advance. Also, is the 5.0 aH battery worth it?

One 2 many complaints about the ego line IQ. Beyond that, I have a ego lawn mower (2024 model) it's awesome BUT... There customer support is TRASH! I litterly returned 2 mowers due to 1 wheel SPINS freely while on the GROUND. My 3rd one does it as well. Other than that, it's cut up everything I've tested it on.

Note that there are variations in the max RPM between model with the ST1534 being the fastest spinning. See the Ego catalog for details.
