Jeff, nice set up. I just purchased the Top Tier along with some 15 gallon pots, and have been looking around for a good hop blocker. Can you tell us about yours...did you make it or buy it? Thanks.

Great video! This is the same exact setup that I'm planning on building when I get back to the States. Even the Spike Brewing kettles, are you happy with them? Your video pretty much solidifies my purchase. I'm assuming you had to custom order your MLT from Spike Brewing with the extra weld up near the top, in order to install the Blichmann Autosparge? What efficiency % are you getting using the continuous sparge?
@jeffjohnson134810 жыл бұрын
Fabeo, thanks for your service man! The auto sparge comes with the hardware to install it where ever you want. That kettle it is installed on is a Bayou Classic. If you watch my other video, I talk about that kettle a bit and discuss the options for installing the Autosparge. As far as the the Spike Kettles, they are awesome. Great quality, no complaints. I haven't measured my efficiency really; don't know how. I usually always hit my target OG and FG. When you get your system set up, post some stuff man. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Great video Jeff. Would you mind letting me know how tall your top tier is? I'd like to get one but I'm concerned it may be a bit too high for my garage.

Tom K. Hey brother thanks for the comment. I haven't brewed in 3 years since this video, my career hasn't allowed it. I also sold this system because I had my baby girl shortly after building this. I couldn't commit to an 8 hour brew day anymore. The top tier probably stood no taller than 7 ft. I'm sure the blichmann website can provide specific measurements. Cheers!

nice video. I am about to buy a top tier so have been doing lots of research. With the autosparge are you gravity feeding from the top kettle? Or are you using a march pump to recirculate wort from the bottom kettle? It also looks like you decided to forgo the therminator and went with the plate chiller from duda diesel? any problems connecting that to the top tier? Did you use the top tier bracket or make one yourself?
@jeffjohnson134810 жыл бұрын
I am using a march pump to recirculate while doing the 60 min mash. I am gravity feeding from the HLT for the sparge. It works great. I am using the duda diesel plate chiller. It works like a champ and cost much less than the therminator. I am a purist, but if I can find something that is just as efficient for less, I will go that route.

I bought the bracket that blichmann offered I believe to mount the plate chiller. It worked fine with the duda diesel.

Are you using a Rims or Herms for this setup ?
@jeffjohnson79777 жыл бұрын
DCLEMMS1 , it was neither. I gravity fed the HLT to the Mash Ton. Did recirculation during the mash using a March pump.

@@jeffjohnson7977 how do you maintain the mash temperature? Do you light the burner to adjust?
