I’ll be trying out the Simple Brown Ale kit this weekend. I’ll be using 500g dark spraymalt and 1kg of brewing sugar. Hopefully it will turn out great.

We’ve already made one before we got the kits in. The pale is a bit bitter for a pale, but it has a nice biscuity malt base. Pretty easy drinking and as a traditional pale ale should be.

I think we have been through quite a few kettles. But i use citric acid weekly to clear the limescale.

@@BrewbitzHard water really does kill kettles, I find that they only last 2 to 3 years on average these days but at least Argos offers insurance for them.

a teaspoon of citric acid left overnight in just the usual amount of water you boil, every other week, works wonders.

Our water here has 400ppm alkalinity. Pretty much the hardest you can get.

What happened to the tap?
@freshandsaltyjohnny6 ай бұрын
Could i use alkaline water instead of tap? I have a kangen machine that turns tap into alkalike water.

You want some carbonates in your water. Tap water in the uk ranges from a pH of 6.5-9.5 so mainly alkaline. Here in parts of the UK the water has too much carbonates, so acid is added to reduce them and therefore raise the pH but it is usually still in the pH range 6-8 See our AMS product as we have charts on here showing the ideal ranges for each beer style - www.brewbitz.com/products/ams-water-liquor-treatment-for-brewing-beer-500ml-harris

Do you not stir in the yeast?? I've never just sprinkled it on top and left it 🤔
@Brewbitz10 ай бұрын
No need to stir it in. The little pellets will hydrate and release their yeast thats trapped inside in hibernation. Those yeast will then do their own thing in the liquid.

@@Brewbitz well there you go. 20+ years of brewing and still learning lol. Thanks for explaining. Keep up the great work 👍🏼
