in early 70's i was a single mom, on food stamps, working and going to school - and i'd ride my bike everywhere trying to make it work and it was hard and scary and i used to sing this song every time i got down....i think it's the single thing that got me through that time.

My wife and I lived in Kansas City back in the early 1970's and these guys would play free concerts for tips in the parks or Volker Park & Fountain area. They also played the Vanguard Coffee House on Main St., UMKC student unions, etc. They love to perform the music they write in small settings where they can connect with the audience. I remember once they played a high school graduation in a small town in NW Missouri and the men's locker room was their dressing room. They are still recording and traveling around playing/singing their songs and making everyone smile. I love their stories...

Late 1969 or early 1970... there were these two dudes playing and singing in the "coffee house" on the 4th floor of the student union at Oklahoma State University... that was the first time I ever heard Brewer & Shipley, and the first time I ever heard this song. It burned itself into my brain and here I am nearly 50 years later... still listening to this tune every chance I get. Now, I have a lot of their music, and I love it all!

Grew up in Kansas City. Mike and Tom were living in Raytown, Mo. My first job while still in high school was at KU Med Center in KC. There I met Tom's brother, Tim who worked there as well. I played some Guitar and Tim was phenomenal on guitar. During the summer between my Junior and Senior year (1971) I took an apartment next door to this tiny house Tim rented near the hospital. I learned a lot jamming and singing with him! One night, after work, we were at his house, having a couple of beers and jamming. It was around midnight and there came a knock at the door. It was Mike and Tom on their way home from the airport fresh from a gig in NYC. We partied and jammed for hours! One of my greatest memories!!!

I read a book about the Hopi's a few years back that was on sale for a dime at the library. The chief reason being that I had read about Mike and Tom's involvement with them. Proved very interesting reading. I may still have the book in storage.

True story…in 1973 in Denton, Tx. After watching them play we ..4 of us, went back to their Holiday Inn room to party with them until about 4 am…and we burned a few. I actually have the ticket stub…with the remnants of a joint taped on it..and years later they autographed it.

listened to beaker street in '70 , in the forested hill near wentsville,mo , actually a bit of a drive from there. Don't remember a commercial as it would have ruined the mystique . A group of kids out on a high ground near an fire watch tower, that was their special place and folks would just come up from nowhere , with not a lite in site for miles and a sky sooooo full of stars that you could role one up and the match would kill your night vision for a while ! Doctor hook and his medicine show was in vogue you might say. Thanks for the memory. Anyone from Jonesburg or Jonesburo still remember ? I was from Collinsville, Illinois and a world away but rite down the line !

+bobm549 Hey Bobm549, I remember listening to Beeker Street, often on AM radio during late night drives from Chicago to the Northwoods of Wisconsin and the UP, camping along the shores of Gitchigoomie. It was a magical show; I remember hearing Mahavishnu Orchestra deep in the woods and, no doubt, Oregon playing Wichi Tai To. It was a mystical time, looking out at Polaris over the Lake... Holy cow! Now I see, B&S reference the program. We all glowed in the dark and it wasn't from Strontium 90 in the atmosphere from the 1950's nuclear tests.
