Excellent video. I went back to look at that 4/6 technique then popped back here. I am new to the switch and this looks great. I like that you categorized the different bloom phases by what we want to get out of the coffee. Who knew coffee would be complicated.

tip i've realized with anything but dark roast for pour over: the brown colour you get at the top, should progressively get lighter. That's why staggering the pouring works. If you see an extraction where the top of the immersion looks very light by the end, that's a great indicator that you've extracted as much flavor from the beans as possible. As a result, remember to pour close to your bed and with a consistent flow rate to ensure good agitation. That's why breaking the first pour into two parts works so well. If it isn't releasing co2 for the first 30ml, have patience and the second one will. As always, use good coffee, and make sure you're grinding medium coarse. Many home grinders like the encore or the oxo (the one i have) produce a LOT of fine particles when you go finer. Those fine particles dissolve sooner leaving you with an inconsistent brew

Hario switch or Clever dripper? I have not seen to many of the big coffee ambassadors comparing or giving their opinion on which is to prefer. Any thoughts from AB?
@Lance54689
@Lance54689 11 ай бұрын
I've used both and there is no contest. The Switch is superior. The way the valve works in the Switch is worlds better, and the materials are a lot nicer. Also for some reason I always got bad clogging on the Clever but I haven't with the switch. Maybe its the filters?

You make brilliant videos, so much so I placed my order with you the other week and today my items arrived. I would not have ordered anywhere else as your videos gave me the confidence to purchase with you, great instructions, easy to follow. Can you please give me the best recipe coffee gram wise and water wise for the aeropress XL. And also is the best grind 25 clicks for the Joy Resolve Grinder I purchased? The Subminimal NanoFoamer Milk Frother is awesome! Works so well. Many thanks. Janet

Quiete an avid v60 User for 5 years. The switch is worlds better than a regular v60. Even with a lot of Experience, you just don't get those extra jucy cups. Never going back.

One question: when adding the water first before putting in the coffee, do I add the total 120ml which would otherwise be the first AND second pour? I‘m a bit confused by this step which you said can prevent clogging.
@AlternativeBrewing
@AlternativeBrewing 6 ай бұрын
it's more of a one pour and steep style brew. add a maximum of say 120ml+ then ad dcoffee - and eventually open the valve - nothing wrong with adding more water once drained either - jsut want to start with a good amount of water in this first step 👌

Do you prefer heat exchangers or dual boilers when it comes to budget end game espresso machines (typically $2000 USD or under)
@AlternativeBrewing
@AlternativeBrewing 11 ай бұрын
Dual Boiler with PID if you can. That way you have the best thermal stability - otherwise a HX with PID will perform just as good 🫶

I’ve seen in places the 4/6 on v60 uses coarse grinds where the Hario switch recipes usually with more of a medium fine grind. What would you say the recommended grind setting will be for this Hario switch recipe and the regular v60 4/6 o using the default burrs on the vs3?
@AlternativeBrewing
@AlternativeBrewing 8 ай бұрын
I'd go with a Grind Size of 11-13. Medium-coarse 👌

is there much difference between this and the clever coffee dripper?
@Spiralem
@Spiralem Жыл бұрын
I doubt there is much difference other than the shape of filter used. Cleaning on Clever is tricky because of the gaskets and O-rings and coffee would slowly creep in. While I find the Switch being easier to clean as the lever can be easily removed. The metal bearing can also be removed for deep cleaning easily as well.
@AlternativeBrewing
@AlternativeBrewing Жыл бұрын
Agree m. Differences in the geometry of the cone, and the material (Clever being Plastic, Switch glass) these will make a difference to the end cup. Clever also having a few extra parts in the mechanism the switch does not. However the Clever works in a way that it opens when you place it down in the cup - so it’s an internal trigger, as opposed to the switch’s switch.
@cktse_jp
@cktse_jp 5 ай бұрын
Percolation phase will be a lot messier to do on the Clever because you need to lift the whole thing up to open the valve unlike the Switch. It’s really designed for immersion only when the valve only opens at the very end.

After using the V60 for a few years, I bought the switch. My observations. Fiddly. The unit is confined to a smaller diameter cup or vessel. If you use a vessel, by the time you pour it into a cup, its luke warm. If you do use it over a cup, when you remove the unit the drips make a mess. The original instruction sheet makes lousy coffee. The unit is not stable, you must hold it to switch it. I have tried a dozen "recipes" ( they are not recipes, they are formulas or processes.. yer welcum.) The differences are minimal. Another yuppie affectation, looks good, doesn't work.
