Feels like they REALLY want to exit the venture. Oddly enough, their whiskey has been on deep discount everywhere in my state... is that coincidence or is there something going on with the brand. When I was last in Louisville their distillery was closed all weekend. Maybe they had a private event or were doing some work on the building but really seemed odd. Anyway, I suspect they are not doing great financially. They tried to go too big too fast as a NDP. Their branding is meh, their whiskey is not unique, and their foot print is too large for their audience.

The Whole Shebang is priced at $139.99USD. Now that's a great great price! I would absolutely do it multiple times if I lived anywhere near the US

Bottle Kill. They said everything was for sale. You should have asked to buy a barrel of the double oaked that was distillery only.

My wife and I (from Florida) did the whole shebang in April and picked two different barrels. Both are amazing and the experience was so much fun! We also bought distillery only bottles that might be even better?!. We are heading back in September for more!

As someone new to whiskey, I would currently go for one really solid flavor vs something with a lot of complexity because I'm still discovering what certain flavors are and it's easier to know one strong flavor vs multiple flavors.

I love that Pursuit is literally 3 blocks away from my best friends house. Have yet to hit them up though. Definitely will likely head down soon to check that double oak out. Woodford Double Oak and Old Forester 1910 are both in my top 10 favorites.

I did “The Whole Shabang” when I took a trip out there in March. Well worth it! Great experience, a ton of whiskey, and brought home a wonderful bottle as well.

Depends on my mood what type of whiskey I am looking for. Sometimes I want the one dominant note to go with something I am eating or smoking a cigar. But usually I like at least some complexity to go with that dominant note. Some of my favorite whiskeys are the roller coaster rides that they bring your pallet on.

To answer your simple vs complex pour question for me it depends on the night. Sometimes I like something simple, like while I'm watching a game. Other nights I want to dig into flavor notes .

Wow apricot is absolutely my favorite fruit and I think I would go for the one note right or wrong. I sure hope you made the right choice even though I doubt I will get a chance to taste any of it. Cheers🎉!! I’m also curious where you are headed from there or did I miss your tour of the PNW? I’m in Salem Oregon area and I would love to get the chance to visit with you.

I will be in Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah and Arizona. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much and you keep doing what you do. We love it!

Always wondered why this mini barrel pick wasnt more of a thing. I hear whiskey theif in ky does something similar, but feels like something every small distillery should be doing.
@apeekintime4 ай бұрын
Many smaller distilleries will actually let you do a very similar experience. I've done a few and they are a great time. My biggest problem... I usually want to buy them all. When I'm doing a real barrel pick, I find it much easier to pick a "best" whiskey. Probably because when doing a barrel pick I'm thinking about what most people would enjoy instead of just preference towards oddball whiskey.
@generalnd3014 ай бұрын
Can you name some of those other distilleries that do something similar?

Usually go for complexity over a single note, BUT if that one note is something spectacular, then I'm okay with it. Also recently met a sales rep for Pursuit at a liqour store in Georgia when I was home for Memorial Day weekend. Really great products and company.

I think people that enjoy whiskey but dont care to immerse themselves in it will lean towards the one noters. The people who nerd out about whiskey want the challenge of the complex flavors so they can pick out all the different notes and why they get them. There's a purpose for both of them

I'll tell you exactly what you need to do to make that happen. Buy a full barrel and then pour the whiskey back into it except ¼ of the bottles. Which you can give away to your friends.
