If I'm a UK based business who has a majority of customers in continental Europe and if the trade deals change (which they will) I will be moving majority of my company to EU since it is a bigger market and easier to do business... Do you realize then that every citizen would have to vote on every single decision the government made? Have to hire every employee, approve every expense, legislate every law, all by popular vote. How many people do you think have time to go and vote directly multiple times a day and week on every government decision, most of which they have no knowledge of or expertise in whats being decided? I voted out... I did my research and even with the possible 'geopolitical and economic repercussions' viewed that leaving was the better option. Yes, the power of the pound dropped... by around 13cents, of which its currently rising to remeet. As for the stock market the drop was expected; as speculative earning always shudders at change. However, those markets are rebounding pretty quickly. In honesty, I was expecting a worse economic shock. For a lot of us, this decision wasn't about money or immigration. It was about a Trading Union (the EU) which has been slowly garnering more political power and stopping countries from making political decisions for themselves. Globally, the UK still holds alot of power, even outside of the EU. We still hold seats in both the Nato and The Security Council. The Brexit just means we have the right and the ability as an independant country to make and inforce our own laws again.

I don't see how. If Britain makes light-bulbs and France makes light switches then they will trade with one and other. Politics has very little to do with trade deals because they are based solely around consumerism, which fuels economies. How many items do you own which have "MADE IN CHINA" written on them, even though we all know just how shocking they're human rights violations are. You want to bet that if North Korea or some lunatic regime had goods and services people want, that trade deals wouldn't be struck up? Any trade deals made in the negotiations will have to benefit to all countries. Given the fact that the UK is one of the worlds biggest economies and has always been in credit with the EU, i.e. putting more into it than it takes out - i don't think it's much cause for concern right now. Also over the past few years British exports and imports have been increasing around the world, where as in the EU they've been falling. In 2000 60% of UK exports went to other members of the EU, where as in 2015 its was 47%. So a majority of our exports (and other service sectors) was done with other countries and continents - mostly America - which means that the UK's main markets are not in the EU and now the UK is free to open up trade talks with those countries to give and get better tariffs and trade deals - opening up the market and making it more competitive. Why are countries going to be buying BMW's from Germany, when they can get a Jaguar from the UK which comes with better import tariffs?

JStank - Nonsense. They said the same thing when the UK refused to join the Euro. Britain has the 5th largest economy in the world and only a small part of it is exports to the EU. Even if this trade was disrupted (which is very unlikely since the UK runs a trade deficit with the EU) it will not be a significant blow to the UK and can be easily made up with trade to commonwealth and other countries which will be increased because they are not prohibited from doing so by the EU. The truth is that UK was a market for EU goods and to cut off trade would be much more hurtful for the EU than for the UK. Just look at the stock markets. Every country in europe went down more than the UK.

The only city boy fucking fishermen was Farage. He's the one who was in control of fishing quotas, he set them low for the purpose of impoverishing the working class so he could then lay blame broadly on the EU and the foreigners while he was the one who engineered their situation, counting on them not being politically savvy.

I could point out, having lived in a fishing village, the reason the fishermen (and fishermen were the largest group to support Brexit in Scotland) often voted leave was because fishing grounds are shared between all the EU members, but mostly because they loathe the fishing caps and rules in place which are very stringent (despite these rules ensuring that they will have a job in the future, by not almost killing our fishing grounds, which like we almost/did do to our herring grounds). It was also the fishermen not recognising that most of their market has been historically and continues to be in other European nations, such as Germany and the Baltics. Also, resentment that companies from Spain and the Netherlands would send boats up to the North Sea trawling, competing directly with them. But beyond that, they really didn't consider much: I know, I talked to a lot of them. And a few were just outright xenophobes and racists, but they were thankfully a minority. Add into that the belief of some that fishing would become a devolved power to the Scottish Parliament if Brexit happened (incorrect, seeing as it will be a token used by the government to try and secure deals that protect much larger British industries in negotiations) and you get a very mixed up, narrow POV from the fisherman vote, or at least that is what I observed.

Here in Britain we had a democratic vote to leave an undemocratic superstate, the same reason America fought and left us. 'No taxation without representation', remember that? Whichever way the vote went, leave or remain, it's a bit rich all these American comedy shows that seem to think they know what's best for us. I'd get your own house in order first. Fun fact: There are around 11 million people in the UK over the age of 65. 83% of which turned up to vote making up almost 9 million 65+ voters. Now statistics suggest that around 70% of these voters voted to leave the EU. that makes up 6.3 million voters, now by subtracting the 30% of 65+ voters who voted in, being around 2.7 million we get a value of 3.6 million voters. These 3.6 million voters easily toppled the referendum in their favour resulting in the Leave win. Whilst this in itself is fine, a few point points to consider are that the vote was only split by around 600,000 votes, it will take us at least 2 years to go through the full legislative process of leaving the EU, and around 500,000 people die in the UK every year the majority of which are people over the age of 65. These three factors combine to suggest that when we leave the EU in 2 years time, it will no longer be a democratic decision as not only will the Leave campaign's most valuable demographic have began to die, but more young people will be able to vote, the majority of which are in favour of Remain. Basically what I'm saying is that the old, traditionally xenophobic people of the UK, who have benefited from 40 years of EU membership and growth, have fucked up a future most of them won't even live to see. Many of the major EU countries have their own separatist issues: Flemish in Belgium, Basques in both Spain and France, Bavarians in Germany, to name just a few. Most of these movements may be small, compared to that in Scotland, but none of those countries will want to set a precedent that could bite them in the arse down the line. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Scotland faced multiple vetoes for reasons of self-interest.

No they won't cut trading with the UK, but as we will be outside the single market it will cost us a lot more to buy these goods from the EU, prices will go up. Access to the single market is dependant on freedom of movement, which is why the vast majority of leave voters chose to vote that way. As for our sovereignty, the UK gets what it want more the 85 % of the time, and the legislation is nearly always progressive, helping the poor and making Europe more equal and a better place to live. As for the fishing thing, EU regulations are in place to try to preserve fish stocks which are being wiped out on a massive scale, if the waters are decimated, it's not just the environment that suffers, it pushes up prices and ruins the fishing industry. All the fisheries can think of is the here and now and squeezing the last bit of cash out, the EU is regulating it not to harm it but to keep it sustainable and going.

In sight The EU extends further than immigration and even with the WTO the EU governance would supersede the WTO if regulations regarding trade overlapped. Trade certainly will be hampered and there is no reason to believe that the EU would not sanction the UK explicitly or implicitly because of the exit in the near term. The UK's contribution was high for sure but it is dwarfed by Germany and France either over time or in a single year. To say the EU "needs" the UK is an overstatement. And that is the basis of the market reaction that the UK will be penalized by the EU which is all too likely. Why? Big changes like this always have a big influence because change means a (short term) uncertainty. Great Britain left the EU (not yet), but they are still in the European Economic Zone. Is leaving the EU actually better? I don't know. But the current EU is way way way too bureaucratic, big, slow and expensive. In order to remain the other 27 member states, the EU needs to change.

I did not agree with Great Britain joining the European Economic Community (EEC) as it was at time of membership. Many business and industries suffered on joining. Many trades disappeared and new trades had to be discovered, or fostered, to replace them - we have become a consumer society, rather than skilled in industries to support our own infrastructure. No one in this country got to vote to join the European Union (EU) which is essentially a non-elected political party with a mandate to political union. Since it isn't anymore, they are going to leave, and may invest in Germany for example. UK companies too are going to leave if they can, or at least establish a bigger basis outside of the UK. Factories are going to move, because producing in the EU has advantages. And it goes on and on and on.

Yeah they want to be as close to the continental market as possible so they set up their manufacturing base in a country separated from it by a body of water with as few of the EU regulations implemented as possible and with a currency exchange disadvantage.

There are lot's of different groups who come to live and work in the UK. Some are from within the EU, some from the Commonwealth, some from the wider world. Refugees were held up as 'The Great Threat' all through the Leave Campaign, that they were ready to flood into the country en masse and threaten our way of life. This appealed to those who feel threatened and to the bigots. It encouraged them to stop seeing desperate human beings and start seeing 'monsters'. But someone who arrives as a penniless refugee fleeing from war, life threatening discrimination or economic chaos CAN still contribute. As in the early days of the US, they come and work hard, really really hard. They more often than not end up being either self sufficient tax payers or building businesses that pay tax and employ people - who then pay tax. So yes, they contribute. All the same arguments were used when people of a different colour were invited from the Commonwealth countries to work here, when millions were displaced during WW2 and even when the Vietnamese boat people arrived. They added to our culture and they contributed to our economy - despite initially being discriminated against. Besides that, we're an island that has been invaded time after time throughout our history. If you did a DNA analysis of the whole place, you'd be hard pressed to find many full 'original Brits'.
