This week, we all got a bit closer to a no deal Brexit. For the umpteenth time, the British House of Commons failed to find a way out of this dead end. (from German television channel ZDF on February 1, 2019)

THIS IS HILARIOUS! THANK YOU! A mournful Brit! [I wouldn't bet that many leave voters will watch stuff like this though - many of them have some nationalistic belief that its wrong to watch foreign tv]. I for one love the German people, would love to learn German too. I went to Hannover and Goetingen once as a 22 year old student for a one day conference, I managed to get about alright despite not speaking very much [I did try!] and many people were very kind in trying to help me, a taxi driver even said he'd be happy to give me a lift to the autobahn for free, which was very kind! I still hope someone in power will do a brave thing, see sense, and ask the people to think again! Tschuss!

At 1:38 the subtitles read "It's like something you'd see in a primary school" but that's not what he said. Primary school is "Grundschule", but he said "Brennpunktschule" = a school in a bad area/neighbourhood, usually riddled by problems with violent pupils, often with a "migration background", that don't obey and respect the teachers. Google "Rütli school", there is an English-language Wikipedia article.

The workers from the EU will be replaced by workers from the Commonwealth, the trading laws that we will have to comply with will be the ones set by our larger trading partners - so how does your vote regain sovereignty or control immigration. However I wish the EU had listened to the UK's concerns over the years (and taken note of the rise of right wing groups within the rest of Europe) and had the humility to accept that not was at all well within the EU on a political front.

In the end, as a non-Englush anglophile, I watch this kind of jokes and laugh and then I end up crying an hour later. I can understand that many people live in the past, I understand that they were naive to believe all those lies and that it is sometimes so painfull to admit that one has made a fool of oneself, but in the end, Britain did not deserve this. When experts of manipulation control the media and when they misinform the people to frighten them, to divide and fill them with hate, then rational thunking gets weaker and irrational fears, insecurities and animosities take over. In the end, millions of Britons just stood no chance against the combined forces of Rupert Murdoch's nazi propaganda machine and Cambrige Analytica's rigging capabilities. Britain may have been manipulated into making the wrong choice, but it does not diminish the beauty of Britain, it's people and it's culture in any way. It is just heartbreaking to watch the place you love destroy itself, but this too shall pass.

@SomePotato5 жыл бұрын

Yes, sorry, we do know it somehow, but still England makes the pars pro toto sometimes.... and in that case: weren't it especially English people voting to leave the EU?! (We also say Great Britian if we mean the UK as the translation of United Kingdom, Vereinigtes Königreich, is very uncommon in colloquial German language (and I think Great Britian includes Ireland as a whole, why Britian excludes Ireland as a whole - so both is different from the UK... or so?? :D )).

@@BlauerBooo Britain is the name of the island with Scotland, England and Wales, Great Britain is Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland ( just the 6 counties ). The UK is the political name for our economic and political alliance. Its a bug bear on my part the US is the worst for switching in British and English. England has the majority of the population so were outnumbered in votes. England and Wales voted leave, Scotland and Northern Ireland voted remain but the majority wins in a democracy

The referendum should never have happened in the first place. It was just a ploy to keep the Conservative party together that back-fired. It's the responsibility of our MPs to underatand the big issues and make desicisions on behalf of thier constituents. Such a big, drastic desision should never have been given to a populace who didn't (and mostly still don't) understand what the EU does and how entwined with it we are.

Thomas Sturges-Allard. Wow, what an arrogant person you are. How do you even presume to know what other people do and do not understand?! You are the definition of a bad loser. Did you spit out your dummy when you heard the result? Or maybe throw your rattle out of your pram? Also, first and foremost, it is the responsibility of MP's to ensure the will of the people is carried out. There was an overwhelming majority (including Labour, The Lib Dems, SNP & Plaid Cymru) in the British parliament to approve and abide by the result of any referendum offered to the people of the UK. The very same MP's suddenly cry foul when the result doesn't go their way. The UK is to be applauded for it's decision to hold a referendum, no other country in the world would have the courage to offer it's citizens such a democratic exercise, certainly none in the EU. Ireland and Denmark tried and they were browbeaten into submission by their German masters. Although you claim the population doesn't understand what the EU does i think the opposite is true, many people are at last beginning to wake up to just what it does do and stand for, and they don't like what they see.
