@@harryrobertson3746 The Tories have screwed it up. Because of the GFA, the UK must either get rid of NI or stay in a Customs Union. If the GFA is violated neither the EU or USA will sign a trade agreement with the UK. The government has spent the past 2 years trying to get the wrong agreement. Sure leave, but reset the clock and take another 1 or 2 years to do it right.

People think him a reprobate now that he has voted for May's deal but his logic is valid and he is still principled. He has always stated: No Deal > May's Deal > No Brexit. No deal has been ruled out so the best thing he can do is vote for May now. Superficially this looks like a horribly hypocritical move but when people feel emotional they just see what they want to see. This presenter is pathetic.

Emily Matis is so rude, to Mogg she is going for the man, not what he is saying. Quoting abuse as though She meant it was a big give away. I am pretty sick of the Brexit Blocking Corporation, or the Ministry Of Truth as Orwell would call it. These people keep saying leavers didn't know or agree on what they were voting for. THEY DID.They were not voting for a destination, they were voting for a departure. Saying they didn't is just a dishonest and anti-democratic excuse to not deliver.
@markhorton8578

@cosmosspring 9.01 it is a common thing for low grade interviewers to say things like, "Your opponents say you are a "xxxxxx"... " slanderous allegation or derogatory term as appropriate. And is a way for the interviewer to directly infer it as truth. This technique is most often used without any names being used and is sometimes a way for those in the media to propose such alligations or terms, or simply call people names, when no opponents have said such a thing. However to be "fair" to Matis at least she did not make that up, and quoted the name of the abuser. Nevertheless the stress in her voice and her manner, gave away her deep personal frustration, with her attacks being put down in a polite and reasonable manner. There was no reason to bring "the useful idiots" quote in other than to be abusive. Mogg probably would have let that ride, had she not just condemned the use of abuse herself.

After the regrettable rudeness displayed by Ms Maitlis in her interview with Mr Rees Mogg on December 13, 2018, I assumed the BBC would issue an apology for her discourtesy, even though she was bested by Mr Rees Mogg's control and legendary politeness. Instead, she was promoted. I was advised that she had exceeded her incivility in this programme. Upon watching same, this proved an understatement. She sets a new nadir in political interrogation: she might raise questions and await answers; depending upon such answers, she might develop new lines of inquiry, not stick to a repetitive script. A dispassionate interviewer should not make unpleasant, some false, and repeated accusations in a timbre of voice akin to a third world police or security services interrogation. She interrupted; she did not listen; she repeated herself; she sneered and she shouted. Her body language could not have been clearer. With hypocrisy, she then adopted a sotto voce approach and less aggressive posture in posing the most benign of questions to Ms Wollaston and Mr Kinnock, yet awaiting their (predictable) answers, (despite, the less charitable might conclude, the apparent hypocrisy of the former, and family conflicts of interest of the latter). The undiluted venom displayed towards Mr Rees Mogg requires investigation by the BBC, as does Ms Maitlis's lack of impartiality. Newsnight has struggled for some time to recapture its relevance as a premier political programme. With Ms Maitlis at the helm, I fear a recovery will not occur. Why would a politician bother to be interviewed by a one-sided inquisitor because, for the most part, the public will long since have ceased to watch the programme? Whatever most people's political persuasions might be, whether Remain or Leave, Labour or Conservative, they surely expect an impartial examination (and control) by a BBC interviewer from which to draw their own conclusions? Rather than make Mr Rees Mogg appear wanting, as he may perhaps be, and which presumably was her objective or motive, it was Ms Maitlis whose unfortunate conduct became the controversy. My lasting impressions are not of any of the 3 politician guests or their contributions, but of an interviewer appearing as unprofessional, partisan, bad-tempered, ill-mannered and foolish, which was probably not quite the intention?

@Sherlock Holmes clearly you've missed the point because you're trying to be clever, so let me re-focus you a second. You asked what the definition of Brexit was, in other words HOW we were leaving. I showed you the David Cameron video to highlight what a vote to leave meant. He was repeating it, it meant leaving properly, no soft Brexit mentioned here. The fact that he was trying to warn you against voting to leave is by the by, yea he was against it but the point is, THAT is what a vote to leave meant, which is what you were asking. As for a sovereign nation, i'll quite simply break your cockiness in one example. If a foreign power is dictating your immigration policy, then you are not sovereign. The dictionary definition (of a nation or its affairs) acting or done independently and without outside interference. ‘a sovereign, democratic republic’ That's all I need, that one example alone is enough to justify the claim that we are no longer sovereign. The British Parliament popped out for dinner yesterday, they went to a local steak house, they were asked if they'd like steak..... YES! they all agreed that steak would be good. "Would you like it blue, rare, medium rare, medium, well done, or burnt to a crisp"......" NO!" they said. "But you want steak?" the waiter asked ...... "YES" they all replied The PM said "well actually I didn't want steak but everyone else wanted it so I'm getting them steak" "so how would you like your steak blue, rare, medium rare, medium, well done, or burnt to a crisp?" asked the now confused waiter.... " Id like it the way the Norwegians have it, maybe" she said, "well they're having it well done" said the waiter thinking he was getting somewhere. "who'd like it like the way the Norwegians are having it asked the PM" "Not us" said the MPs "so how do you want it cooked, or do you want it raw" asked the now bored waiter. " Look" explained a tall very snooty MP in the top hat " Its quite simple, there are 650 of us and we want steak, you sell steak, you need us to buy your steak, we want steak, but we don't want it raw or cooked now go into the kitchen and figure out how to sell us a new kind of steak,..... " The upset waiter went into the kitchen and came back with an offer. " Its not really the done thing but we could pickle your steak" "Nobody wants their steak in a pickle!!!" exclaimed the PM. With that in walked a chap with a pint of lager a french sounding name an a German wife " you know what ! he said I mightn't be an member of this parliament but I'm on the board that runs this restaurant and I want steak too. Lets all go down the road to McDonalds they're American and they'll be dying to sell us Steak.." "I'm not sure they do steak!" said the PM. " Well if they don't its bound to be better than the steak they do have here." said the MP with the funny tufty hair. "Thank God they're gone" said the waiter as he he turned to the 27 other customers who had been looking on with amusement.

So am I a liar, uneducated, or stupid? I will assume that you are being deliberately obtuse when jumping to such sweeping judgements based two short sentences. Now let me educate you. I was at Westminster yesterday and heard the brexiteers saying categorically that they believe no deal is not a problem. That does not mean they are ignorant of the consequences of a no deal Brexit, but they are ready to accept the consequences if it means we are out! And before you start on the we didn’t know what Brexit would mean, people don’t realize they will their jobs, and any other economic doom and gloom you wish to regurgitate, you are wrong! There has been more than enough pro EU propaganda and re-education on the mainstream media to ensure even five year olds know what you believe no deal would result in. You are obviously incapable of comprehending why sovereignty is more important to Brexit voters than anything you have to say on the matter. I’ve heard remainers saying we have sovereignty. But how do we have sovereignty when EU law can override our government; as exampled this week. If that isn’t a problem to you, then I pity you. Regions with large Brexit bases are suffering job losses, depressed wages, unaffordable housing, and other things. To them the economy is already fucked. How big a threat do you think a wrecked economy is to them? And predictions of catastrophic financial and resource losses are not definitive, they nothing more than biased opinions. So may I suggest you pull your head out of your arse you condescending fraggle?

Your flawed argument of us having sovereignty is just ridiculous. Let me put this in terms you may truly understand: If EU laws do not take precedence over our own, then the argument of sovereignty would have been crushed long ago, and your side would have won the referendum. Research shows more people think we should leave without a deal than any other position at this point. After all no deal is better than a bad deal, and would you agree May’s deal is a bad deal?
