@annandune
@annandune 2 жыл бұрын
@@focusandefficiency9359 Agreed. He wouldn't have even qualified in Clough's day because for all people talking about how great the Champions League is you can get into it by only finishing fourth in the league. Fergie was a good manager but it took him something like eight years to win a league, he never retained the European Cup/Champions League and he needed a hell of a lot of money and backing to do it. His exploits at Aberdeen are worthy of far more praise to be honest, but he would never have been able to achieve what Clough did at Forest - promotion, league, two European Cups, all in succession.

Achieved things, miracles really, that could never be repeated. And it's lesser known just how good a striker he was in his playing career, he'd have been going for many millions in the modern era. He was unique also in that he transcended the usual tribal loyalties of football fans in general, everyone loved Cloughie.

To some extent, yes. I think particularly a couple of the pieces from the beginning where he was shouting a bit. However, as it went on we saw a little more of the wit we associated with Brian. He was a lot older at this point and a recovering alcoholic so all things considered he didn't do too badly.

Clough often gets tarred as a rambling alcoholic due to his personal decline into alcoholism and poor results in his latter years. People nowadays often overlook how much of a genius the man was. He was an incredibly articulate, bright, sharp tool of the game. Took no shit, but moved mountains - much like Bill Shankly. Same aura, similar charisma. Look at where Derby County and Nottingham Forest were when he took charge and look where they ended up under him - and with, let's face it, pretty unfashionable playing squads when you compare them to the classic Man United and Liverpool squads.

Cloughie was on great form here, but I do have to ask: Does he win the award at 3:54 for the most weird expression ever? The guy was an absolute legend, and spoke the truth even if it was occasionally unpalatable. Would have been great if he could have managed in club football for a few more years, and still to have been alive to this day. Always remember the public dignity he showed when my team knocked out Forest in the 92 FACQF, when he would have been seething at some of his team. RIP, Sir Brian.

One of the funniest men of our times! If Brian wasn't making you laugh with something he'd done or said, someone was probably making you laugh telling you a story about him. The really funny thing is that I think people were oftentimes laughing at themselves and their own shortcomings, knowing that if they'd been in the same situations as Mr Clough and having to take action or make decisions, they probably wouldn't have done or said the things that he did as they had neither the strength of character, confidence, the respect of others nor the balls to do so...🙂👍

If you knew anything about alcoholism, you’d know even those that are now teetotal have had their speech affected by being alcoholics in the past. He is sober here.

@@jameshowley595 Jesus, and if you knew anything about alcoholism (assuming you're not relying on your personal experiences) then you'd know that not every alcoholic is the same, and that your previous statement was obvious crap. I know my fair share of recovering alcoholics and believe me, their regular sober speech is a million miles from drunken slurring. Cloughie here was getting his words out, but his mannerisms and manner make it far too obvious that he'd been drinking. Compare him to just a few years earlier in interviews when he's sober and he's a completely different man.
