A great album and a great track. The Bauhaus version is very good as well.

What an amazing review and commentary! Watching this stirred up memories of being a blown away 16 year old in 1977 discovering Eno's Before and After Science LP. I have been a fan since and have sought out and followed him through his solo, ambient, and collaboration releases. Thanks for posting this!

Taking Tiger Mountain has been in my record collection for 50 years! Your review of 'Third Uncle has made me realise how much I still love & appreciate Brian Eno's early vocal solo albums for their experimental nature and wide variety of sounds & textures. Great review!

I love all of Eno's '70s vocal albums and this is a great track from them. My favourite is 'St Elmo's Fire' from 'Another Green World', with an outrageously beautiful and unearthly solo from Robert Fripp.

Spider and I is also an amazingly great track too.

Ah my youth, how distant it all seems now. When that girl kissed you for the first time this song is how your heart was going.

This would have blown my mind in 1974.

Have you heard the live version on the 801:Live album? Phil Manzanera on fire .

Agree 100% with Andy after 1 listen it's playlist for me. The 1st comment was it would have blown my mind in 1974, this blew mine in 2024. I was only familiar with Eno's atmospheric music this was what did Tony Wilson say Jon, "and now for something completely different". The fevor pitch of this was astounding and yea I could hear Rage, punk, and pretty much every other genre that must have been influenced by this I wonder if a Bronx kid called Grand Wizzard Theodore may have listened to this and maybe subliminally be moved to start that genre. Who knows, who cares it's music and this was fantastic. Thanks Jon from me Andy and the others.

Yeah, it's something, isn't it? Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers, Jon.

For some reason I'd never made the connection of how much American Indie-Rock band Unrest sounded so similar to this era of Eno.

This tune likely helped spark the "no wave" movement culminating with Eno's production of the No New York album.

Luvvit! Love Taking Tiger Mountain. In fact, I love all those early ENO albums. (I like the ambient stuff too, although I don't listen to much of it these days). Thanks for the video and the review. 😎😎

I still play all the early Eno albums. Eno always called himself a non- musician, which gave him a totally fresh canvas on which to work. Also, he managed to rope in a lot of great musicians, which is why his music sounded so tight and inventive, because he gave them the space to really express themselves. Interestingly, Bauhaus did a version of this, which I have to say was pretty good. Didn’t really get into his ambient stuff, but he came back in nineties with some really great music. Nerve Net is one of his better ones from that period. I think his ability to bring out the best from the artists he produced was also phenomenal. One only has to think of David Bowie and Talking Heads to realise this man’s genius.😊

For decades I thought this was a Bauhaus song lol Obviously now I know that Eno must have been a big influence on them.

Since he mentioned Robert Wyatt, Jon is contractually obligated to drop some Wyatt on Andy. While both At Last I Am Free and Shipbuilding are beautiful and heartbreaking, I’m obsessed with this live version of "Gharbzadegi” from a BBC doc on Wyatt’s life kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIfcdZdjn9KkftUsi=1Eu2rp41NGAfo4CU

The more recent 'Walls and Roses' collaboration Robert Wyatt did with Mary Halvorson's Code Girl is another stunner.@@theaudiophiles7889

Can I throw in a suggestion for a future episode. This might be too well known, but Pere Ubu’s The Modern Dance is worth a revisit.

Literally added a track off that album to our list for July earlier today. You must be reading my mind, Terry. - Andy.

I wouldn't say that Eno influenced Devo. Eno produced their debut album after David Bowie was unavailable... DEVO was already a mature band by that time, and they in fact didn't like the gloss Eno put on their sound (and they never worked with him again).

I'd say Eno's music obviously influenced Devo. The frustration was both ways I believe. You could just as easily say Eno never worked with them again. Cheers, Jon.
