I knew after the first Vikings game this team was a year or two away. I'm more disappointed in the way Gutte managed the Wide receiving room this year. Looking back, it didn't even need to be a premium wr, just a veteran player and consumate professional to help these guys build their careers beyond their rookie contracts. So, I call this season a learning curve for players, staff and management. We had our weaknesses exposed in really big moments across the board. But this happened to the Eagles last season, how the organization matures as a collective unit is the key to success moving forward. But Gutte has done some great things as well: Love is a special player. Cooper is a potential All Pro for this defense. I liked the way they tackled this last off season. Jacobs and X were upgrades. The safety room rebuild proved excellent. So, I still have faith that this organization will take that next step forward. But it'll need to be a collective maturing from the top down.

This team has far too many holes to address during the draft. They need a top WR, likely a top CB if they can't figure out what Alexander is doing, better contributors at LB (Wilson and McDuffie are simply inadequate) and then both sides of the line.

@doofapotamus2323 Agreed. Our normal draft pool is probably a blessing this off season. The youth movement is fun in the regular season, but playoffs get ugly when Rookie Ralph has to win one on one against Pro Bowl Pete. Free Agency will play a big role.

Gutekunst’s finest hour has been his free agent signings. He’s taken some big swings and hit on almost all of them. His drafts overall have been less successful than his FA signings, especially in the first round, but we have to realize he’s certainly not alone in having some misses. Plus, of his nine first-rounders, only two have been in the top-15 and one more in the top 20. That makes it tougher. Looking forward, yes they have to address a pass rush, receiver and corner, and to varying degrees they will. But bottom-line, this team has talent, and is going to go as far as Jordan Love takes them.

It's not just about having a WR1, it's about having a field stretcher. That is why Packers played so much better with Watson on the field. Davante Adams does not solve this issue because he is a target for intermediate throws. DK Metcalf, which you mentioned, would be a much better fit - we need a guy who stretches the field so that guys like Doubs, Wicks and Reed can be open for intermediate throws.
@kevinhouse43762 сағат бұрын
Many fans are clamoring for Gutey to give up first-round capital for a Crosby or Higgins, and in a vacuum that might not be a bad idea. I especially understand what a Maxx Crosby could mean to this team. However, Green Bay hosts the draft this spring, so like it or not this is the least likely year for us to trade a first-round pick. Rightly or wrongly, teams (and many of their fans) hosting the draft don't like the idea of sitting out the entire first day. Now if we could acquire Crosby on the day of the draft, that would still be an exciting first day even without an actual pick. I do look forward to next week's discussion regarding Gutey's previous first-round selections. Overall I think Brian has been a very good general manager (most recently, his remake of the safety room was incredible), but the lack of success with his first-round picks is easily the most valid criticism of his work. Now some of this poor ROI can be placed on our coaches for failing to develop these players, but either way it is really frustrating. For example, I remember analysts saying Quay Walker lacked football instincts coming out of Georgia, and boy has that been proven true. The knock on Van Ness coming out of Iowa was that he lacked multiple pass rush moves and a "plan" to get to the QB. That is still the case after two years.

The 2023 Season run-up to the playoffs and the playoffs were to me much better than 2024. 2024 was a major regression for the Offense. Regarding Adam’s. Great slot receiver but the Packers have a great slot receiver in Reed who is more versatile. Maybe Adam’s as a short term X for 2025 till Watson can get healthy.
@braydenleis4735Сағат бұрын
I wouldn’t say major regression. They definitely were not as hot as last year but the run game was much better this year and overall they were much more consistent. They didn’t have the bucs or giants types of games this year, still disappointing tho

@@braydenleis4735 This is an interesting discussion to continue since 2023 and 2024 were different. I understand that in the base running game in 2024 was better but there resulted in a hole between the running game and the middle. In 2023 Aaron Jones was able to fill in that middle with his pass catching ability. In 2024 they used Reed in that space but Reed really fell off the last half of the year. Lafluer is a smart guy and a Math Major so I expect he will find the flaw. Marshawn Lloyd could have filled that space if he hadn't gotten hurt. Hopefully he will be healthy in 2025.
