The man is an icon. Total respect and no airs or graces, just a solid, genuine East End bloke. I've met him once, very approachable and has time for everyone. True Gent. Brian was the only reason kids like me tuned into SuperStars, it was essential viewing, we wanted to see who he would beat every week!

What a great competitor and a really, really nice man. My Sensei at Orpington in the late 80's - one day I took my young nephew along to the club and Brian was so kind practising with him and signed his Gi (which I had embroidered). Pattaya sounds like a place to visit once this lockdown stuff is done....

Trev - For me this is the best coffee chat you have done to date by a country mile.. great interview...watched it twice..I remember Brian winning the Olympic Judo Bronze in Munich and then watching him on Superstars and smashing the dips and squats out for fun, not just once but year after year. At that time I could manage 4 dips until I joined the Army and then managed 5 ! 🤣🤣 Must say he still looks good. Guessing he's about 75 now ? Looking forward to part 2 Thanks Trev 😀

Checked from wikipedia (Judo/Europe/Finland) if I remember correct - seems that I still do. When I was junior I advanced to yellow belt with two dan - those are red stripes but called dan at here as wikipedia says. I quitted for a reasons but one of the last match which I made, I can remember it still like yesterday - I sweeped the legs and took the hold. Probably 10 seconds + the wait time before it was called over. That was 35 years ago... (edited): probably the belt was white + two dan. There was discussion how to color the belt to yellow. Need to check it out next time when visiting my parents.... and nobody cares :-)
