There are class batsman like Sachin, Dravid and Kohli then there are entertaining, aggressive batsman like Gayle and Mccullum. Brian Lara is just a rare breed who is a blend class, consistency and aggression. There will be Sachin’s, there will be Kohli’s, there will be Ponting’s but there is only one Lara. The closest I could find is AB de villiers who might be called a successor to Brian Lara in some way

@@pt-7890 I am not understating Sachin’s achievements and impact on the game. What I am saying is you can find players like Sachin. what was he known for - consistency, solid technique, reliance. There have been many players who have got all these Kohli, Root, Dravid, Shubhman Gill may be. But Lara is a rare breed I don’t find such players who has this sort of abilities- consistency, equally good against spin and fast, aggressive, ability to play long marathon innings. There may be players like him in the future but I haven’t seen anyone so far. May be de villiers to some extent.

Comparing Lara and Tendulkar is like comparing Roger and Rafa...but IMO Lara and Roger were the most talented and the nicer to watch....The mental strength on display here was enormous...and to think he actually scored 501. Legend!!!

What's makes u think Lara was more talented and good to watch....Lara is more flamboyant...,if u take his shot making he was breath taking....but if you see a whole innings fully....you shall find..Sachin is more perfect ,less faulty shots in an innings... easily more balanced and well aligned while playing shots which makes it more beautiful.....Lara offcourse is more flamboyant....hence Bradman called Sachin the most closest thing he has seen to himself...he said it with a reason in mind....cheers👍

I hope.This record will last another couple of years. Because of t20 cricket, the batsman doesn't have enough patience to score. One needs to have patience, stamina and concentration to play such an innings. T20 cricket is now making the batsman play unorthodox shots. No class in present day batsman. This record will stay until there is no change is playing style of the players.
