Story songs and murder ballads have been the proviince of folkies from time immemorial. I am certain that John Prine would appreciate Brian Wright's craft, just as I know Brian appeciates Prine, and Townes and Guy and all who have come before. I am happy that this legacy continues. For me these songs about life are more meaningful that the pop stuff that is instantly disposable. And it is not a competition, instead, a legacy that is handed down to each generation.

@genesisiscoming. Yes John Prine and Brian Wright both use G, C, Dm chords. You are also correct in that i do not have to defend him but I’m going to. I do hope that you will not make such public comments accusing a time tested songwriter of stealing someone else’s song as their own. I have met both Prine and Brian Wright. I have seen them both live on multiple occasions. I don’t pretend to know them but i do gather they would both find you petty and of poor character.

@genesisiscoming. You are weak. Brian is a fan of Mr. Prine as all songwriters should be. This song is not even in the slightest bit like Donald & Lydia besides that there are male and female characters. Please dont comment on something you know little about. Brian shows nothing but great respect for all songwriters that have come before him. This is a great song...just leave it at that.
