I agree and His love is far more powerful than are abilty to reject it... scripture says Gods will is that all be saved and He works everything after the console of His own will. His will, will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. May God bless you

Great news! G-d is like Jesus.

The Great News is that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and on the 3rd day, He rose again.

John 4 -- The women is also guilty, not just subject to futility. Jesus came to redeem us. The shedding of blood became the base to make forgiveness possible. The author presents the opposing view in a very one-sided and exaggerated way.

The sinfulness of her life wasn't Christ's main point, but it did confirm his ability to prophesy, and gained her attention. While the blood is shed for sinfulness, the Gospel is about eliminating death and creating a renewed relationship with mankind, a new heart, a new life, and a new way of being which reflects the Kingdom of God. Wage of sin is death. God warned about death by disobeying, which death is NOT part of creation. As to the adulterous woman, they didn't lay hold of the man, but only the woman. They wanted death, He chose forgiveness and Life for her. Yes, He said sin no more, but that isn't ever Hos main focus, because love and forgiveness will ALWAYS encourage the repentant to not repeat, and to be consistently changing. Brian's focus on the Love is what is left out of mainstream Gospel Preaching, because the Gospel has always been about Love and redemption and change into the representation of the Kingdom of God on Earth, represented by the B-Attitudes, Love, Service, and Testimony to the Messiah's Message

Actually under the LAW blood must be shed to obtain forgiveness. The Law came thru Moses, but grace and truth through Jesus.

This is truly a beautiful gospel. I’ve preached this sermon (on my very conservative church) and the Spirit really touch many in a special way. Thanks Brian

Weather Moon respectfully, you can’t make a broad brush statement about love being left out of mainstream gospel preaching because it simply is an untrue statement. If only love is what represents the gospel message, then it’s a lopsided message because God is just in equal measure to His love. God lovingly sent Jesus to suffer the punishment for sin. Jesus lovingly went willingly to die. American Gospel: Christ Crucified goes through this topic thoroughly and it features Brian Zahnd as well representing his side/argument.

@@kellywilsonid Where does Scripture make unequivocal statements about what God is? There are only two such direct statements in the new testament, both in 1 John where God is equated to something (aka _this_ IS equal to _this_ ). They are: The God is love (ho theos agape estin), and The God is light (ho theos phos estin). I find 1 John to be the most mature theology of the character of God we have available to us. Does John write that whoever is not _just_ does not know God because God is just? No! He writes whoever does not _love_ does not know God, because God is love. Justness is surely a facet of love, because what Good father would love without being just also? This is why I think God emphasizes for us to forgive one another as He has forgiven us - it is not just for me to receive forgiveness and not extend that to others. But justness is not the word John chooses to describe God's _nature._ I find His justice is expressed in saving us from Sin and the grip of death - in other words, the literal definition of justice being "to make right". He is making things right in the world via His love. He is making things right in the world by exposing the darkness in it with His light. I'm not disagreeing on anything about that He died in our place, of course - just putting thoughts on the table as to the 'God is just in equal measure to His love' piece. I believe God is indeed just, but it is a describing word and facet of His nature, not a noun-equivalent.
