In this 2022 article, Toole argues that standpoint epistemology -- which holds that social identity is relevant for knowledge-acquisition -- should have an impact on mainstream epistemology. In particular she argues that standpoint epistemology shows us that non-epistemic factors in part determine whether a person in a particular situation has knowledge.

i found this channel while searching around for resources on kant, for a philosophy elective a few months ago. the course on the first critique helped me a ton in wrapping my head around it, and now i make sure to check out whatever you put out, because it's always interesting and thought provoking. you're real good at what you do.

Missed hearing the wonderfully accented and educative voice! Hope you are well! (I am now past Tractatus - thanks to your introduction - finishing PI and on my way to the note books!)

Sounds like what post-modernists and ethnographers have known but somewhat formalized.

I don't want to sound dismissive, but standpoint epistemology is one of the most misguided and politically-driven ideas in epistemology that has no regard, whatsoever, for getting things right.

A. really begs the question here what "right" really is and which method of getting at it one personally prefers. B. i don't think standpoint epistemology really delves into what right knowledge (truth) is (in a monolithic sense), as other branches of epistemology often do. again, the "right" for standpoint epistemologists would not be one formalized, objective, neutral knowledge. Meaning that there would be knowledges - plural and more localized, instead of being overarching and simply positivistic. C. i would genuinely be interested in knowing what really is at stake if knowledge is politically driven in the case of standpoint epistemology, assuming (wrongly) that it is not the case in other lines of inquiries.
