I'm a disabled lady on a budget without a dad to teach me stuff. I'm going to try and replace our ejector pump myself and this was so helpful. Thank you so much for this video.

I saw this just in time. I was about to install the same pump you threw out for my basement kitchen sink. I had heard different opinions on it but the main thing was that it was loud. I just ordered the new basin/pump system…now I gotta go return all the 1 1/4 pipe and fittings and replace with 1 1/2. I guess it’s worth the extra few bucks to do it right.

Great video thank you. Who didn't recommend AAV? Also who said the discharge pipe should have been 2 inch?
@briancnc
@briancnc Жыл бұрын
If you mean the drainage pipe, per code it should have been 2" which I changed it to, as the drainage load was exceeding the limit for that branch. AAV isn't recommended by the manufacturer, rather they expect you to vent to the exterior atmosphere, not sure why but I followed their recommendations as I've seen in another application where an AAV still allowed for some smell to come out

@briancnc
@briancnc 10 ай бұрын
@monday9026 not very loud at all. Quieter than the pump I had before as it's housed in the pump enclosure. If you have any reservations you could just buy it and plug it in see how it works for your space, return it if it's too loud.

2:09, copper air vent, didn't know you could even use that, thought it had to be cast Iron, or PVC.

I installed a laundry pump up system and didn't connect to venting because it doesn't need it, the only time venting is really needed is for sewage, everything else is code for extra expense

@@greenmarine5 In Pennsylvania I tried to use a Liberty 404, pump & tried to pro-vent it but the sink didn't drain well & the company to me I had to go out side to get fresh air from the basement where I was installing the sink. I ran a line outside & it worked perfect. in new York City it's hard to pass an inspection without the proper venting system because of the codes
@greenmarine5
@greenmarine5 3 ай бұрын
@@worldview730 the vent has to be about 3 inches above the extraction, so the flow can relieve it's self to stop a vapor lock

I have the same reverse osmosis system. I have the same under sink sump pump kit as the one you have. Anyways.... i bought an air admittance valve and i plan to install this kit set up in my basement for my utility sink and washer soon. I dont have a pvc vent pipe running thru the ceiling. Is there any way at all i Can use just an air admittance valve and not run pvc vent up the basement ceiling thru the first and second floors to roof? Thanks
@briancnc
@briancnc 11 ай бұрын
I asked the company and they said no. I will probably work just fine but there may be drawbacks, like the valve slamming closed on the motor, not sure what that causes long term but they don't advise it. I've certainly seen them done that way though just didn't want to risk having problems. Try to locate an existing vent stack you could tie into, you should be able to find one somewhere at least in your first floor and get to it from your basement stack like I did.

Can you use this pump for a kitchen sink or it is only for water and soap?
@briancnc
@briancnc Ай бұрын
I would not and avoid debris like that if possible with any pump of this type to avoid issues with clogging. I have a strainer on this sink just in case.

I watched the original install and I'm a bit confused with the redo in this video. What size pipe are you NOW using for the discharge assembly?
@briancnc
@briancnc 10 ай бұрын
My discharge and vent (vertical pipes) are 1-1/2 sch 40 PVC pipe. I eventually tie into a main discharge line that's a 2" PVC, the one in the horizontal orientation.

We have had this for years and today it stopped pumping and leaking out of the top where the rubber circle plug is at the top with the teo power lines go inside. We treat it every 6 months also but I’m worried it might have some kind of buildup still if maybe someone drained something down the sink they shouldn’t have. I disconnected the pipes to see if there was a clog and didn’t see any but the screws are rusted if I was to try to take it apart. I was wondering if there’s any way to (not sure the right words) “descale, unclog, maybe breakdown” anything inside the machine by pouring it down the sink into it, besides the treatment we usually do so we don’t waste it if it does nothing. I just don’t know what to do and trying to not spend money we don’t have. ANY advice?

Also, we have never pour any other chemicals down the drain before besides flo descaler every 4-6 months (we were told by the person who installed it that anything else could ruin the pump.

If you, or anyone else could help with advice, I thank you in advance. I’ve searched all over the internet and can’t find any other videos about this exact machine that could help.

@@ZM-oo6ks If you're comfortable doing it I would take it apart, take the screws out and do a visual inspection of the pump inside the basin. These pumps and their float switches are very simple components and you might just either have the pump clogged or the float switch got stuck and it's not activating the pump even though it's overflowing, which what you described sounds like it is if water is coming out of the cable grommet.

Thank you so much for replying back so quickly, I think at this point I’m going to try to attempt that I just hope I can get them off because they’re pretty rusted after all these years lol. I was just hoping that There would be some kind of Safe chemical that I could try to pour into the system that might breakdown anything That might be causing the problem without having to force these bolts open lol Again, thank you so much. I will give you a follow and send a like. I think you’re the first person to actually reply back to me about some thing that I needed help with on KZbin.

@@ZM-oo6ks For troubleshooting I always start with the following mentality: - The solution to a problem is most likely the simplest (Occam's Razor) - Make sure the power cord is plugged in! I don't think the chemical method will help, those products for drains are not good ways to clear issues, much better to take it apart do a visual inspection and see what's going on. Does it make any sound at all, like a stalled motor, or is it silent even when you observed it was overflowing? Did you check to make sure a GFCI isn't tripped and the outlet is working? Always start simple, isolate electrical from mechanical problems, and eliminate the easy culprits first before you tear into equipment, lessons learned!

you should drill a whole in the PVC pipe inside the housing so the pump doesn't get vapor locked. Why the hell would you have a check valve after the trap that makes no sense on a sealed system
@briancnc
@briancnc 7 ай бұрын
The check valve is to prevent backflow. Albeit given the size of the holding tank and my vertical stack is pretty short I reckon if you had enough lift to get over the back flow could cause the pump to short cycle in the right conditions.
