@goldglovegrappler13822 жыл бұрын
DNF feels like a game from 15 years ago outside of graphics and netcode and that's perfect. Licensed 8ing fighting games in 6th gen were just plain fun. The combat design lead for it had a similar role in Tatsunoko vs Capcom and Marvel 3, if you've played those you know what you're getting into. UMvC3 is my favorite fighting game of all time, so DNF is my favorite fighting game in years. I do play Crusader though. I get the fun handed to me on a platter as long as I'm not blocking.
@HaydenCraig0002 жыл бұрын
I understand the comparison to marvel just based on it being 8ing, but marvel 3 has like 10x more depth than DNF Duel does. Do you think DNF Duel will have people clamoring to play it over 10 years later like people have been seeing with the Marvel 3 resurgence?
@goldglovegrappler13822 жыл бұрын
@@HaydenCraig000 The comparison to Marvel 3 is mostly on the combo system with hitstun decay, varying juggle states, crumples, bounces, and unlimited OTGs. Conversion is much more along the lines of Baroque from TvC in turn. The depth in Marvel 3 comes mostly from how much team synergy matters, and DNF is 1v1 game. Besides that, throw OS & pushblock bait setups are the most relevant tech that comes to mind. Despite the ludicrous character tools, DNF has its own depth that's being explored, and with its netcode and accessibility I can see it played at anime tournaments for some years to come; certainly not as big as Marvel 3 but possibly more people playing than TvC side tourneys and other 8ing titles. That said I do agree with the video on Conversion needing to be more easily available to you in DNF, since it's not a prevalent as Baroque is in TvC. I would say to have MP Skills delete 80% of the current white life amount instead of 100%, and then have the universal throw get rid of 100% since it's a neutral reset that most characters don't have much of a use for compared to frame traps or guard damage.

I personally think DNF:D could benefit from a "Instant Block" mechanic like in BlazBlue. The way I'd like to see it implemented is that instant blocking drains more guard meter but grants fewer recovery frames so you can have an opening to punish or maybe roll. Ideally this would mean there's a risk of guard breaking yourself if you mindlessly perfect block but also a slight risk to people mindlessly flowcharting a block string.
@Pandaman642 жыл бұрын
I really hate it costing guard gauge for slightly better frame advantage.
@cymtastique2 жыл бұрын
@@Pandaman64 Agree. It doesn't really need a downside that costs such a valuable resource in addition to needing skill to execute. A perfect block mechanic would be pretty welcome in the game for sure.
@dyenamx85872 жыл бұрын
@@Pandaman64 normally I would agree, but this is a game of extremes. I think if you just give instant block with no cost, the game might become less crazy. I don’t think it should chunk 1/3 the bar, but maybe 1/5. The bar is already divided into 5ths, so visually it’ll be readable how much you’d meter you’d lose. Either way I think they need to buff some of the defensive options.

I was really hyped until I saw a lot of gameplay, but then everything started to look same-y. Everyone keeps saying "if everyone is OP, nobody is", but like, if the average power level of the game is "full screen normal that ends in 75% damage", I'd rather just play Strive. It's just really not for me. I think it just seems very frustrating no matter what for everyone involved.
@sc0652 жыл бұрын
Yeah seeing this games design makes me appreciate Strive so much more. The "make everyone OP so it balances out" thing is nonsense anyway and shouldn't be treated like a universally good approach, if anything I think it's harder to make that style of balance feel good, particularly in a 1 character vs 1 character game.
@L_O_V_E_L_A_I_N2 жыл бұрын
See, I'm the opposite. I bounced off Strive hard, but I'm really enjoying DNF. I like how stupid it is. I like how it lets stuff rock that most games nowadays would stay away from (like some DPs being cancelable into safe stuff on block). Sure it could use some refining, but the core of the game is something that just works for me on a fundamental level. It reminds me a bit of Power Rangers BFTG, as a game that's a bit simplistic but lets you do fucked up stuff, but I like this more just for being 1v1.

"Make everyone OP so they all balance out" is not a good approach in many, many games, and even if it "could" work, it's extremely tricky to get right. It is not some universally "good" way to design a game. Being "OP" tends to mean being highly in control or straight up killing the opponent easily. In a 1v1 game like this, if you're on the receiving end of some "OP" attack, at best you're blocking for 10+ seconds, at worst you're dead or losing 40%+ of your bar, and either way you're sitting there watching, not interacting, with your thumbs up your butt. This game takes the situation above and adds simple controls and GIANT hitboxes, making things even more severe. Not for me, especially at $50.

I just want to start off by saying I really enjoy this type of content, especially from someone as articulate and studied as Brian. I wouldn't say this is all that much different from some other discussion videos he makes - but either way, this type of content is really interesting and I'm here for it. TL;DR for the bottom: It's a really fun game right now but I hope they make some changes to make DNF Duel last at least a little while. Long enough for us who are tired of our mainstay games to be satisfied until the next tekken/street fighter/project L/whatever. The problem with DNF Duel is that it isn't fun as a super competitive game right now, for me. The oki in this game sucks because it's too linier. It feels like every knockdown is "should they/will i dp or not?". There's no real risk of high/low mixups because 99% of overheads in this game are super reactable because most of them just come from slow jump in normals. There's no risk of crossups because most of the cast doesn't have them in the first place, and the ones that do are nullified by the block button regardless. The SFV creed of "just take the throw" is even more prevalent in this game than in SFV because throws are so bad on the risk/reward factor. Rolling works by holding forward then tapping block - when it would feel much, much better if it was hold block then tapping forward. Conversion should be fleshed out a lot more in my opinion. I would say at least give us the option to have a version that costs mana instead of grey life. Something like normal input conversion staying the same, but down + conversion would be a mana cost version. I'm not sure what changes they SHOULD make, but i will say the thing i want to see the most - the thing that's getting old already is just... how so much of the cast has frame 1 invincible DPs and basically have access to them every time they get knocked down. I think some characters are fine with keeping 1 frame invincible DPs, but certainly not most of them. Especially considering the fact that they cash out any white life you have on you. Something about the DP game has got to change for some of these characters. Also give me Monk and Rogue please.

I played the betas and it felt very fun in the begining but by the end of the second beta it was already feeling stable. It always looks like too much freedon leads to stagnation really fast. When I see what characters are playing I already know how everything will be played. Are the characters playing more than the players. There is not much options to put your personality there besides the character selection. This also can be said for a lot of games but not one that was just released. Also I didn't liked the conversion mechanic back in the beta and looks like it didn't changed at all. I can't se much of a future for this game. It really looks liek if they keep like this only a couple of characters will be viable and will be the one that touchs first wins. And if they nerf or change to much the crazy stuff the game will loose its purpose. Its a very tight spot.

Some matches, you will have the worst wifi connection on the other side, where even rollback cant help much. Then there is a connection bug right now, its less frequent in ranked but in quick play, it can happen, that you experience a connection loss ALWAYS at the start of the second round, as soon as a hit is exchanged. This happens to me and a friend of mine who lives like 100 miles away. So be aware , that can impact your online experience. If things are normal and both players are in the same region , use wired and the bug isnt happening, its a very good experience tho.

Thats why I cant really take Ranked seriously. At Diamond rank and above where players are at equal skill and knowledge of the game that all it comes down to is the character youre using which I tend to see lots of Hitman, Swift Master, Ranger. Its really evident.

Honestly I was having fun at first but right now, at least in my experience the game is getting stale af. I only find Rangers, Strikers, Troubleshooter and Swift Master I manage to have fun sometimes,but it's not like that most of the time win or loss due to the monotony I've been facing lately. Feels bad man, I love the series

DNF is hilariously bad. I'm addicted too. It throws traditional logic and Risk/Reward out the window. If it didn't have the publicity of Arcsys or Nexon, it would be one of those fighting games featured in the second half of "Will It Kill?".

Best bad fighting game I've played in a minute. Haven't seen a game this broke since the first MvC3 and I love it. I find it hilarious that you explode in this game for breathing wrong. That being said, playing this game for money should be considered gambling and I would not recommend that, but this game is 10/10 mega fun in a casual setting.

I wanted to get DNF so bad but all the early steam reviews saying keyboards can just randomly get disconnected (during games) which forces you to alt-f4 to play again kept me away from it. I am worried that by the time the keyboard issue gets fixed it'll lose too many players to be enjoyable kusoge
@SlowLearner-z3h2 жыл бұрын
According to the devs the keyboard issues will be fixed on the 10th of july.

It's nice to get fighting games like this that just let you do crazy shit. Not every fighting game player cares about the competitive scene. Too many newer ones focus too much on that and it suffers for it imo. I just wish this game had better single player offerings.

I like to call this game the COD: Modern Warfare 2 of Fighting Games. So much crazy shit that's easy to pick up and shoot some shots, but the people who truly hone it end up killing you before you see them. Still fun at all levels, but there's just so much crazy shit and some meh shit.

imo the game is not good and all the 8ing/mvc comparisons fall flat when one of the biggest parts of those games (the movement) is completely gone. no pushblock, no triangle dashing to approach, no plink dashing to dodge moves, just "hit this big button in neutral then eat a 35 second blockstring" the game is fighterz with a worse ip and will not last longer than its hype period
@yugiohkid9472 жыл бұрын
Technically it's an rpg fighter not an anime one, although the art style is very similar in this game

They need to reduce the range on long range characters.... alright i said it .... long range characters or him ( swift master) wich its insanely fast with huge normals are getting all the wins. They need to nerf the range or add air blocking option.

I like it, but I don't have a strong desire to play it.🤷🏾♀️ ...I think for me the mobility is just too low for me. If the characters overall were faster or had more movement options (and an air block/dodge), I might feel better about maybe trying it out.

PM is a much better example because their development mentality was to create a Smash game where every character had the same power level as Melee Fox. Brawl- is more or less just a joke mod.

I think conversion being tied to grey health makes some interesting neutral decisions more viable. Like getting hit by some projectiles on purpose so you get conversion available, or waiting until you block an mp move before you guard cancel so you can use conversion after guard cancelling.
