As someone from Santander, I cannot thank you enough for showing my country in such a respectul and elegant manner. This type of tourism is what we need, and not what we usually get. As you discovered, Spain has a massive amount of hidden jewels scattered everywhere. If you decide to come back, or someone watching this video decides to come here, do not hesitate in contacting me, as there are still many places to visit and foods (cheap) to discover!. Hi Jimmy, i will definitely come with my husband next year . Can you message me a ten day itinerary for a fit couple in their 50’s? We love walking in nature, the ocean and food and wine. We also love architecture but not museums and churches- more quaint villages with good food. Also where is a good place to invest? Say 5 acres not too isolated and not too far from the ocean. Rolling green hills and close to a lively village. We are looking for somewhere to semi retire. Muchas Grazias !

I am Spanish, and Northern Spain is definitely not the Spain no one sees, it’s just the part of Spain that isn’t marketed to tourists from the UK or the US, because they want to see bulls and flamenco... glad you discovered this slice of paradise, my plan is to live in Asturias as soon as the restrictions for Coronavirus are lifted!
@Osutip2 жыл бұрын
Not flamenco, but bulls are as traditional in a great part of Northern Spain as in the South. Not really in Asturias and Galicia, which are an exception within Spain indeed, but really traditional in the Basque Country, with very vibrant specific local traditions such as this ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sokamuturra ). And same for the running of the bulls in Pamplona, which is also in the north. People often think that Basques are some kind of "extraterrestrials" with an alien language, but in some respects they're closer to Spanish stereotypes as found abroad than Galicians and Asturians.

It´s probably because the stereotype of Spain is Andalusia, and people who only visit the Mediterranean coast find it difficult to understand that 83% of Spaniards are not Andalusian. For us Spaniards, the sound of the Asturian bagpipe is as typical Spanish as the flamenco guitar. I recommend that you visit the north, but don´t forget the umbrella, you may need it more than sunscreen.

@@athenassigil5820 Probably stereotypes create false perceptions. I was born in the Basque Country in northern Spain in a town that is located at the same latitude as Toronto . According to meteorological data, it rains 185 days a year on average. I have seen heavy snowfall in winter every year since I was a child, although I suppose it won't be as big as in Canada because the Gulf Stream tends to warm winters in western Europe compared to North America. But if you ask an average Brit who always comes to spend the summer on the Mediterranean coast in Spain, they will tell you that all of Spain is very sunny. That is why every year when a great snowfall occurs in some part of northern Spain (that is, every year), if you read the British press they talk about climate change and many people are very surprised because they have the wrong idea of that Spain is a country with a climate similar to the tropical one. That's why they don't believe me when I explain that in my city, it rains three times more than in London and that's why sometimes you can see funny scenes like this, usually starring British tourists. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHSVm4R-ZaqeZqs By the way, if you listen to what the BBC journalist says in the video, he repeats the false stereotype that this climate is exceptional for Spain, which is totally false. Another future victim :O)

@@nomecreona3829 Your comment is implicitly derogatory. Andalusia is simply beautiful and a real treasure. North-Spaniards have their own sterotypes about Andalusia. My land keeps its own secrets for many Northerners who usually underrated it, They think here's only flamenco, sun and bulls. For example, Doñana Park, one of the most important natural protected areas in Europe. The mountains in Huelva and Sevilla. Grazalema in Cádiz and Málaga, where it most rains of Spain and second in Europe. Sierra Nevada, in Granada, the tallest mountain in Spain's peninsula, always snowed. Sierra de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas in Jaén y Córdoba. Tabernas desert in Almeria, the biggest in Europe. Now, let's talk about culture, history, architecture, ....
@nomecreona38293 жыл бұрын
@@joanhibu6682 My comment has nothing derogatory against Andalusia, which by the way is a land that I love and that has contributed a lot to the history and culture of Spain like many other less popular regions of the country. I simply state a fact, a large part of the tourists do not even appreciate the culture or the architecture of Andalusia, they only look for sun, beach and cheap beer. Ask most of the British expats who have created their own gettos and although they have lived in Spain for decades, they do not speak a word in Spanish and are absolutely interested in nothing about our culture.

Coast to Coast.

Love your video. Cantabria, Asturias y Galicia are my favorite parts of Spain. At times can be crowded and touristy, but the majority are Spanish tourists. I often stay at a rural tourism hotel near Praia das Catedrais and it can be very crowded, tour buses and cars filling the lots. There are so many isolated and near deserted beaches all along the coast. Just take a road heading toward the ocean and you will likely find your own beaches. Thanks for helping me virtually visit the North!

The Bardenas Reales is not on the wild northern coast but in the interior of Aragón. The biggest desert in Europe is probably the one located inland from Almeria on the south coast. It is where they filmed the major Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns.

Some scenes from the movie "Patton" were filmed in Almería's desert too. In fact, some parts of the movie were filmed in Spain.

Bardenas Reales are in Navarra, near Aragón. In Aragón you have the Monegros, cold semi desert, but not the same place as Bardenas Reales.

Awesome!! No need to feel bad about saying the Ruta del Río Cares is the best route in Spain, it is. I've done it a few times and Los Picos de Europa from Asturias, Cantabria and León. I decided to move to Spain from the UK so I can do hiking like this more often. I live in sunny Andalucía and 16 years on loving it.

A few years ago I was doing a "GOT" tour (started in Iceland) and met a friend for a northern Spain tour including San Sebastian & Bilbao. Our taxi driver offered a day trip to Gaztelugatxe with a stop for lunch in Guernica (also art enthusiasts). It was fun to walk out on the rocky pathway to "Dragonstone". The landscape with amazing with unique "rock worms" that form up the cliffs. I was so thrilled to see this part of Spain, which I've toured north to south, and the incredible Basque country. I now understand why they are so proud. On a personal note - I've been vegetarian for most of my life and the ONLY time I broke that was in Spain to taste the Iberian ham. Almost turned me... :D

I know I'm a bit late to the party but man. I was born and raised in Asturies, and I've been just blown away by this heart-warming and incredibly respectful portrayal of my homeland and my dear neighbors from Galiza, Cantabria and Euskalherria. If you ever go back to Asturies and want to explore it further than Picos de Europa, try la Playa de Gavieiru and/or Bufones de Pría, you are not going to believe the sights, the food, the people. I know I am biased being the land I grew up in but man, it's just different gravy.

Thank you, thank you very much for showing my land, my cradle, my house, Cantabria. Also thank you for showing my neighbors to the North. It is important for us that the things we have here, our mountains, our sea, our cuisine and our customs are spread throughout the world. Are we a little wild? Perhaps, the climate, and the harsh orography of the terrain has marked us, but we were always noble of heart and good people, we are open to outsiders who come to visit us with education and good manners and I will give you the best that I have in my house when you are my guest, that you already are.

I have lived abroad for 10 years now and seeing the Spain I remember from my childhood has brought back such vivid memories to me... Whilst I am originally from Salamanca (still something pretty different from the typical mediterranean tourism kinda stereotype), my dad would bring us to the north of Spain on holidays to avoid the summer heat, and I'd usually go on summer camps to Picos de Europa or Pirineos too, but I have not been there in a long while now... I miss it so much, and I am glad there is people willing to explore what is to me the most beautiful landscape in the country. I love northern Spain. Also, you have made such a delicate video, it was very emotional to me. So thank you! the video was like being there with you. Michi
@danielfraiz744 жыл бұрын
Us who live in the north have nothing to do with the general idea that the world has of Spain and it's a pity. We aren't represented by paellas, flamenco, bullfights, crowded beaches and all that stuff, so whenever they try to sell the "marca España" we are like wow, that's literally only about half of the country Also I'd change the title from "the Spain no one sees" to " the Spain that Spain doesn't try to sell"
