My man BLAT is dead on here. There’s so much subliminal marketing in almost every video you watch. I’ve kayak fished 5 years now and I catch more smallmouth and multi species - and bigger smallmouth (4,5,6lb smallmouth DAILY) on the Mohawk River in NY. The goby have blown these fish up and this river holds 12+lb walleye, a 13 was caught New Year’s Eve 2023. I was there. 35 pound carp, I snagged, 17 pound pike which isn’t even “huge” for that river. And this is all one fishery, I fish the entire south end of the Adirondacks around the Great Sacandaga Lake. Came in 4th in my first GSLFF fishing tournament which is big fish, 4th in bass category in June, in September I placed 2nd out of 131 anglers. I caught 26 smallmouth that day, one 19 1/8 got beat out by a LMB 19 1/2 inches in the last 3 minutes that I guarantee was caught in the pond next door…but regardless..never have used electronics… just use knowledge of how bass set up, when they set up there, time of day, time of year.. TIME ON THE WATER IS ALL YOU NEED, LEARN YOUR FISHERY, don’t rely on word of mouth and electronics to find fish, just go fishing. Thanks Brian keep those lines tight as f. Have a good day man. Btw if you can help me out w some Minimax’s, SMH heads, and worms..lmk I’ll give you my adress. I just need enough for the season.. a box would do. Thanks man

I have ALL the electronics you can think of in my boat (lowrance) but within the first hour of being on the water I find myself forgetting to use them lol. Just out there fishing enjoying life. It wasn’t that way when I was tournament fishing. I was always thinking I needed more to feel “accepted” by the other anglers. Best thing ever was quoting tournaments and going back to fun fishing.
@innovativeta520611 ай бұрын
Man, you hit the nail on the head here. I used to fish bass tournaments and it started taking the fun out of fishing. I would spend 8 hours fishing and catch three 2lb bass, two 30" pike, four rock bass, a big bowfin (dogfish), three sheephead, a bunch of silver bass, and I would come home feeling like I had a terrible day fishing because I only caught 6 lbs of bass. While I also did well in some tournaments, I realized that everything I loved about fishing was being robbed by the tournament life. Feeling stress while you are fishing is the exact opposite of what that sport should be doing for you. Not everything about tournaments is bad, but I think it has caused a lot of people to forget why they fell in love with fishing, and therefore miss out on many of the joys that it once brought them. Now a days, the 8 hours of fishing I started this reply about, that is an awesome day on the water, as it should be!

This is refreshing voice of common sense in a sea of noise. Too many have forgotten what fishing is really all about. It's getting out to enjoy nature, have fun and create some of the best memories with your friends and family you'll have in life. I'm in my late 60's and only recently have moved up to fishing from a small 14' boat, instead of the bank or dock. I started fishing when I was a 6 year old kid on farm ponds using a cane pole, a pack of Eagle Claw bait hooks, braided Dacron fishing line (any old timers remember that stuff?), a rusty bolt nut for a sinker and a can of worms. And yes it worked and I had a blast with my dad. Those are some of my fondest memories with him.
@williamparrish67311 ай бұрын
Tell it ! Never! Never! Let the lack of gadgets and gimmicks stop you from having a good time. I'm not a tournament fisherman and never will be. I have a canoe a couple poles and some tackle and I'm a happy fisherman. I still live for the excitement of catching a monster I didn't even know was there. Once it's a job the FUN ends. Thanks Brian your the real deal with no agenda. I enjoy your videos and your truthfulness . Keep making them I'll keep watching them. They call us bankers up here .

@S2pidMedia11 ай бұрын
It doesn't have to be. If you watch all the lure videos, you'll go nuts trying to buy and use everything you're told you need. Watch some videos on bass behavior and how they relate to cover and move based on seasonal conditions. Those fundamentals will simplify everything you do. You can fish the right lures in the wrong places all day long and get nothing. But if you understand where the fish are going to be, and how water conditions affect their mood, even a lure that is considered to be less optimal can still get you bites.

That first topic is a great one. As someone who started out learning how to fish for bass through KZbin videos. I feel like most people teach the textbook fundamentals which include seasonal baits but this seems to develop a close minded style of fishing. I think this is good for a beginner but it could be better if they also mentioned that everything is relative to that body of water and mentioning that fishing really boils down to the conditions. Understanding how to fish the conditions will start to teach you that all these baits can be thrown anytime and anywhere as long as the conditions are there. Great video B. Lat! Appreciate the realness!

In my area we mostly have small shallow lakes so they fill completely up with weeds. The amount of vegetation and water temp are the biggest considerations I have when I try to figure out what to throw. There isn't many opportunities to bank fish since most of the land is privately owned. So a boat and trailer really open up the opportunities. I totally agree with the electronics issue. Maybe because the lakes by me are usually less than 50 acres and shallow. There aren't many places for them to hide and they are pretty easy to pattern

My man! This is very refreshing, The only reason I spent any money on electronics was for my salmonid and walleye fishing. No amount of electronics can make up for time on the water.

Pond fished for years, finally was able to buy a 14 year old 19' Bayliner fish/ski boat that was set up like a bass boat with detachable ski tow. I bass fished with that boat for years, wore out the lakes. A $100 Hummingbird unit, old Minn Kota 12v TM, 1 spinning rod setup and 1 bait caster. Got my first new boat, 21' Carolina skiff DLX with Suzuki 115 for $14,200. I put so many striper, spanish mackrel, trout, red fish and sharks in that boat over 12 years, it was a blast. Finally stepped up to a 24' bay boat with Yamaha 300 a couple years ago. I had just as much fun on that skiff as I do the $140k bay boat.

I’ve caught 20lb salmon on them, 11lb trout, 5lb bass on them…so many different types of fish on inline spinners. I only have 2 poles my medium/medium action with 20lb braid to 15lb flouro leader and my ultralight 6lb braid to 6lb flouro leader. People always tell me “I gotta use bait casters” f that! I started Bass fishing in the 80’s, I remember when KVD was a rookie, Roland Martin had a Sunday tv show. The greatest thing I had back then was a Book! It was called Bass 101. It was everything about rods, reels and baits. But the biggest thing was about Bass. How they hid, how they attacked, how the water temp changed them. I read that book front to back and put in play things I read. Then in the late 90’s my job got in my way. And I sold my boat and 98% of my tackle. 3 years ago I got back into it and was in culture shock. The prices had quadrupled, electronics were off the hook. Heck I had a flasher and was amazed when I got a 2D back then. But I never ever forgot that book. Once you know the B.A.S.S. you can catch the bass.

Not all situations calls for electronics but I will say there are times where electronics are a MUST HAVE!!! Like running on a river/low land system. My home lake is vary dangerous if your running a boat without good mapping. You can go from 60’ to less then 2’ in a boat length. Yes you can run the marker buoy but the tva and twra do a crap job of marking sure that the buoys don’t drift off. A lot of lower units have been lost and people hurt. So yeah good mapping and depth is just a safety thing but like blat said you don’t have to buy a 16” unit to run mapping. Yes livesvope and 360 is nice and yes it can help you find fish.. but just because you can see the fish on a screen dosnt mean you will catch that fish. Now if you know how to fish without using down and side and forward facing sonar and you later get that and you spend the time to learn and how to to use to be more productive on the water.. but just because you see them you can’t make them bite!
@BrianLatimerFishing11 ай бұрын
Mapping became popular in the 2000-2010 range. How did anglers run that river before then?

Using lake maps that you could buy at the local tackle shop and I personally believe the twra would take better care of the channel markers back then before the use of electronics with mapping but a lot of guys have lost lower units on that lake.. and the scary thing is the lake changes… had a young man about this time last year running a cut fishing a club tourney and hit either bottom or a log and broke his 250 merc off into the boat almost killing him.. I will say if your not running a leash you should especially how much time you are on the water!!!

I really think people have forgotten how to really go fishing when I first started I mean flashers came out and that was the big deal I mean people have forgotten I just go out and catch fish I mean with all the new electronic specially forward facing sonar and all that I mean come on you want to be a fisherman let's not play video games let's go out and go fishing God bless you I am just so ecstatic that someone has finally put out a video like this

Great Video…. And more importantly, a Really Great Message….. I do have a boat now, bought in the summer of 2020…. However, my largest, best and greatest Bass I have caught was pond fishing in 2002…… I have the pic on our bedroom dresser…… Dang, I looked a lot younger then 😊😂

Its refreshing to hear this because people are so hung up on livescope and the expense of fishing. And me included, most people start out grinding from the bank and work your way up if thats what you want.
