Look at how she immediately looks down when Avon gets mad & then immediately looks up as soon as Avon says he had nothing to do with it.

This is why when McNulty tells Brianna off in that office, making her face the fact that she could have saved Dee from his fate, is one of my favorite scenes of the show. While she looked for others to blame, she ultimately could have stopped all of this from happening if she could have separated herself from her materialism and her greed. Her cars, apartment, and possessions meant more to her than her own son, and it cost her.

McNulty's understanding of human behaviour enables him to predict how other people will react when he creates a situation like this one. He knew D'Angelo's murder would force Avon to come out of denial, then take action against Stringer. The office scene where McNulty told D'Angelo's mother he knew she did not care about her own son was the pinnacle moment in this drama. String & Avon together were a force of nature, pitted against one other meant the end for both. What a perfect casting choice for the McNulty character, all these characters...

@gerarpope65812 жыл бұрын
@Crazyknight, well yes and no. The 100k was symbolic for several reasons. In the first season, Prop Joe schemed 100k in a basketball game from Avon. Later on, Prop Joe got close to String when Avon and the best of his muscle had gotten locked up (Bird, Wee-Bay, Savino) or taken out (Stinkem), and they had lost their connect. Avon was very reluctant because of how shady Prop Joe was but because of Stringer's sneaky ways, they would have to go to Prop Joe for product (exactly what Prop Joe wanted). All of this lead to the Barksdales losing full control of all of their towers and eventually the corners that they tried to take away from Marlo. All of the previous became very evident to Avon in the scene from Season 3 when Mouzone visited with him at the Barbershop and Avon shakes his head and whispers to himself in disgust, "Prop Joe package." So Avon knew that with Marlo having a line to the connect and cutting everyone else off, he could help set it up and it would be a way to get back at Prop Joe and how he said it in Season 5, "the rest of those East Side B____s." That's just the way he felt about em. ...and yes, he and Brianna's relationship was forever strained after what happened with D, yet he probably continued to do what he could for her more than ever.

It’s crazy how much Avon, Breonna and D’Angelo looked like actual family, especially Breonna and D’Angelo. I actually thought she was his real mother when I first saw the show lol

Parents should know shish like this comes with the territory. It’s pure evil and delusional to turn your children out to criminal activity that leads to the death and destruction of others and not be touched. Just one example of greed is really evil. Gifts corrupts the heart.

Something that eludes me, despite seeing this clip several times over the past 8 years: why exactly wouldn't Avon divulge the truth? He didn't truly need Stringer at this point...and the latter had already shown disloyalty and unpredictability. Is the answer as simple as "blood of the covenant"?

Since season 1 we've been shown the differences between Avon and Stringer and how they operate and what matters to each individually. Avon views their business as a family structure-his people, his crew, their blocks, their home while Stringer views it as a business, an operation to get another opportunity to do something else and makes decisions with that idea. We hear the saying the game is the game repeatedly and Avon stays true to that while Stringer does what he needs to for the business so long story short...Avon knows D'Angelo could've hurt them and most likely would talk and ruin everything. Stringer having him killed was apart of the game because he was a threat and if he wasn't Avons nephew there wouldn't be any hesitation on handling the issue. So he's torn, he knows it had to happen but hates how it happened since it was family and doesn't want to tell his sister because it draws a line within the relationship and creates a new issue since she definitely would want something done to Stringer for making the call to have D'Angelo killed. So as unhappy he is about lying he knows he has to not tell her the truth.

Not only that but he couldn't afford to divide the whole family/crew while at war with Marlo

@@tazt21 very true. Snoop and Chris definitely made going war even harder since they are experienced killers and at the moment all of Avons muscle was dead or in jail. No more weebay, stinker, little man smh...

My question is: after this scene Avon pretty much disregarded stringer because of the business deals and chaos he was causing, so when they had the confrontation in front of slim about the clay davis hit, did stringer know his time was about to expire?
@mikem5912 жыл бұрын
Avon’s blood ran red. Part of the difference between him and String. Also why Avon understood someone like Brother Mouzon. There conversation in the barbershop was a blood conversation. The business side of the game was important to Avon of course, but a lot of his actions where driven by his blood running red. He gave up String to Mouzon but was still trying to save him at the end. He simply couldn’t fix it. Mouzon as a matter principle had already made up his mind and based on the game String had to go. Mouzon was driven by vengeance but by the time he got to String he was basically almost like a machine carrying out the execution. A lot of the unpredictability of Avon was understanding of the game mixed with his blood running red, which gave him a dynamism that String didn’t understand and Marlo lacked.

deangelo was always built for the game, just had too much of a good heart for it, i liked how avon found out the truth cuz it proved him wrong about his nephew, he wasn’t weak at all he was a soldier who stood for what he believed and never gave in which sadly caused his death, plus mfs forget he literally killed someone😂

Dayum i ain’t never noticed she was in the wire from snowfall; memory slippin, major. Avon had no empathy for stringer death because he played too many away games and he bleed green. Stringer and prop Joe really were slimy snakes 🐍. Them boys tried to play the game with book smarts when it required street smarts response. When their plan fail,’like snakes they set somebody up or create unnecessary drama.

🙂 Yes.... I like to think that there's a part of Avon that truly understood why stringer did what he did so he kind of put it behind him in a sense and continued being stringer's friend until one day avon probably thought about it and said no I can't let this go without doing something I got to do something to stringer.....lol
