Stumbled across this tutorial as I'm brainstorming for Halloween and you've totally inspired me to do Ursula! I was intimidated because I really did not want to do purple face paint / body paint - A) I'm way to clumsy for that and would leave a trail of purple behind me and B) I didn't want to stray too far from my normal make up routine because my skin is SO sensitive and break out prone. This is the perfect blend of using my base makeup my skin is used to but added in colorful contour to give it that purple-grey-cartoon feel. I love this! I may even try to apply it to other looks in the future. Thanks so much for this!!

Hi Alexandra! I'm so happy this look inspired you! And yes - using bodypaints can be intimidating... But using colored eyeshadow is a great option. If I could do this over again I'd use even more colored eyeshadow so I had even more of a purple gray color to my skin. See my newest tutorial (it's a Mermaid look) for an example of how I used more eyeshadow to cover more of my skin with the colors I wanted. A big dense brush (but not too long of bristles) will help you cover more ground. Have a wonderful Halloween!!!

Finally a tutorial that doesn't include full body makeup! I might actually be able to pull this one off.

How did you coif your hair like that? Thinking of doing Ursula, but I don't want to invest in a wig, but an up-do with some white face paint or hairspray would work. Thanks :)

julied945 I did a whole lot of backcombing on top, smoothed it out without losing the height and pinned the top where I wanted it. Then I smoothed the sides and pulled the hair back info a high twist (kind of like a French twist), but I left the ends out and curled them and placed them where I wanted them, and then plastered it all with hairspray. If you just tease the crap out of your hair and pin the back up off your neck, you'll be good to go. And white hairspray would be awesome!
