We exclusively use no till where I am in SD, water preservation is a must, and wind erosion post tillage is a big concern. Interesting to see the difference in agriculture practices in your area.
@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms37544 жыл бұрын
The case planter creates a Furrow differently then your traditional open or discs like white or deer. In the no-till soil as you build soil structure the closing system becomes something to keep an eye on. I go through a lot of sod oh, that old rootbound stuff that's hard to close and simple spiked Wheels have worked great! Really hard to beat strip till when that fertilizer is underneath the roots where there is always more moisture. All your fertilizer sitting in New Orleans doesn't do anything until it gets on the river just like fertilizer put on top or Incorporated shallow it needs that water to help life get it to the root system. All my notes Hill and conventional till maps of the same field will look very similar Thelma but where I did strip-till with a deep Shank and put the fertilizer underneath is unbelievable how much nicer the fields look. It took awhile to figure out in no-till that we lose that early flush of nutrients like in a tilled field. So we really had to change fertility management and now that we're banding are fertilizer in no-till it's really coming along!

Have you thought of using controlled traffic farming as well? Ie using the same tramlines (via rtk) for all passes inc the grain cart. To help minimise compaction from those big machines, especially on the heavy soils.

Here in N/E Tennessee we tried some no till for about 4 years. Couldn't make it work. We definitely do much less heavy tillage than we use to. But still about every 2-3 seasons have to completely turn over the dirt.

That would be fun! Got to run 8700 with 18 row chopping corn head last fall in some extremely tough conditions. It snowed about an inch that morning of wet sticky snow. Corn stalks were wringing wet, Corn was only 25% moisture so that wasn't bad. There was a John Deere s790 same size corn head the day before across the road and it had all it could do at two and a half miles an hour. I wanted to set the speed limit at 4 miles per hour because everything was just working real nice but the customer wanted four and a half and it still worked. Lol
@MattB-844 жыл бұрын
The real test is when the combine hits it. Be interested to see what the difference is this fall either way of how the crop looks now
@MattB-844 жыл бұрын
So many variables to each test too. Weather plays a big factor. If you have a hot dry period during pollination time it could dramatically effect the yield in a comparison test. One could of hit pollination to early or to late

@crpth13 жыл бұрын
Don't kid yourself, forgetting the obvious! Badly conducted experiment, generate bad conclusions! It's not rocket science. The "greener and a tad taller" already had taken 20 gallons of fertilizer, by the time of the video! On the other hand the not so tall/green, took a single application, just before the video... Enough said?! Now you know where the greener/taller came from. ;-)
@FrisianFront3 жыл бұрын
@@crpth1 if you want to reach 300 bushel corn you are already up to spraying 360 pounds of liquid nitrogen advised Then your p and k has to be top notch and upheld aswell. And you need an high humus ratio in your top soil because an corn plant takes alot. Within a pfew years on our land we are back to grain and grass because the corn ate all the humus. This is ofcourse not for corn grain or ccm but for silage dairy feed on heavy clay. And takes up to 10 years to get an good humus ratio back with muck spreading and liquid manure.

Rotten beans as ANYTHING rotten, smells terrible! But the real point, or lesson, is NOTHING should be allowed to go into an anaerobic condition! Being disappointed in one or two year no till results and going back to tillage is like going to the gym for 2 days, realizing you didn't lose weight, so you get lipo. No till takes some time, and if you're not using cover crops with it you're doing it wrong.
@BriansFarmingVideos4 жыл бұрын
Been notill/minimal till since the early 90s. I’m definitely not wanting to go full conventional tillage but I’m a fan of deep inline ripping in a 5 year rotation and striptill. Different strokes for different folks
@autotech674 жыл бұрын
Not trying to sound judgemental, my kids and I love your channel. Especially love that you vertical till instead of conventional till. Just not sure why you'd do something mechanical when a cover crop can accomplish the same thing.
